Morning session: Sensex recovers 55 more points to 3625, Re up two paise to Rs 42.66/68 vs $

Bombay bourses were active in the morning session. Hectic buying was witnessed at the counters of pharmaceutical and information technology companies.

This led to an upward thrust on other shares, pushing up benchmark indices. Media reports said financial institutions turned active buyers in the morning.

The 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex climbed 54.59 points to 3624.06 while the S&P CNX Nifty at the National Stock Exchange surged 18.50 points up to 1042.70.

Hindustan Lever, NIIT, ITC, Ranbaxy, ACC and Infosys were among the prominent gainers.

Meanwhile, at the inter-bank foreign exchange market, the rupee was reported to be doing fine at Rs 42.66/68 against the dollar, though some dealers said there is a touch of volatility in the air.
