Sensex opens with a 100 point gap, spurts to 4818

The stock markets in India opened on a firm note on December 6.

The Bombay Stock Exchange, India's premier bourse, has been witnessing volatile trading. The BSE Sensex, the 30-share benchmark index, opened at 4818, up 104 points from Friday's close of 4714.

According to reports at 10.30 hours IST, the Sensex was at 4800 level, up about two per cent. The National Stock Exchange's S&P CNX Nifty was ahead at 1436, up 18 points or 1.26 per cent from Friday's 1418.

The Indian rupee was at 43.42 to the US dollar. The Sensex closed at 4836, up 122 points or 2.58 per cent and the Nifty at 1443, up 25 points or 1.76 per cent.
