Prices fall as operators, institutions offload; Nifty down 8.5 points to 1123.80

Share prices fell on off-loading in key stocks by local operators and institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange today.

The S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at Rs 1125.55, touched the day's high of 1139.80, low of 1113 before closing at 1123.80, showing a net loss of 8.50 points from the previous close of 1132.30.

CNX Nifty Junior fell by 23.10 points to 1961.40. S&P CNX Defty declined by 9.15 to 910.30. S&P CNX-500 and Midcap 200 ended lower by 7.67 and 9.24 to 764.61 and 662.44.

The total turnover on the NSE was Rs 20.25 billion from trading in 88.9 million shares. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 5.14 million.

Today, 332 equities advanced, 626 declined, 68 were steady and 48 hit the price bands.

SBI topped the turnover list with Rs 3.08 billion, followed by Satyam Computers (Rs 2.35 billion), Reliance (Rs 2.30 billion), Ranbaxy (Rs 1.72 billion) and Pentafour Software (Rs 1.29 billion).

Others that showed a high turnover were ITC, Silverline, Zee Telefilms, Tisco, L&T, ACC, Telco and BPL.

The top five gainers were ICICI, EIH, Gujarat Ambuja, Cipla and HLL. Prominent among those that shed value were P&G, OBC, HDFC Bank, HPCL and M&M.
