Equities drift lower after early gains; Nifty down 15.75 points to 1163.20

Pivotals lost their initial gains towards the fag end of trading on profit-taking selling spree from institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange on the first day of current settlement today.

Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 1180.00 points, touched the day's high of 1192.05 points, fell to the day's low of 1159.25 points before closing at 1163.20 points, showing a net loss of 15.75 points from the previous close of 1178.95 points.

The S&P CNX Nifty Junior closed lower by 4.65 points to 1996.95 points as against the previous close of 2001.60 points. The S&P CNX Defty ended lower by 13.35 points to 935.95 points from the previous close of 949.30 points.

The S&P CNX-500 and Midcap -200 eased by 6.65 and 3.00 points to 793.40 and 689.55 points from the previous close of 800.03 and 692.55 points respectively.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 19.69 billion that came from trading of 98.39 million shares in 288,896 trades. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 66.58 million.

Today, the exchange witnessed 596 securities advanced, 336 declined, 72 remained unchanged while 91 securities hit their price bands.
