Pivotals lose early gains on profit-booking; Nifty steady, 1162.60

Pivotals lost their initial gains towards the fag end of trading on profit-booking by domestic institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange today.

Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty Index opened on an optimistic note at 1163.70 points, touched the day's high of 1175.95, fell sharply to touch day's low of 1159.60 points before closing at 1162.60 points, showing a net loss of 0.60 points from the previous close of 1163.20 points.

The S&P CNX Nifty Junior rose marginally by 6.00 points to 2002.95 points as against the previous close of 1996.95 points. S&P CNX Defty closed higher by 0.70 points to 936.65 points from the previous close of 935.95 points.

S&P CNX 500 and CNX Midcap-200 closed higher by 2.45 and 2.05 points to 795.85 and 691.60 points from the previous close of 793.40 and 689.55 points respectively.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 16.76 billion that came from 79.20 million in 239,771 trades. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 2.43 million.

Today, 457 securities advanced, 464 declined, 93 remained unchanged while 42 securities hit their price bands today.
