Pivotal dip on selling pressure from bulls, FIs; Nifty down 21 points to 1141.90

Pivotals suffered moderate losses on speculative selling pressure from bull operators and institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the depressed sentiment, the S&P CNX Nifty slid by 20.70 points to 1141.90 points as against 1162.60 points of the previous day. The CNX Nifty Junior Index tumbled by 41.60 points to 1961.35 points while S&P CNX Defty dropped by 17.75 points to 918.90 points.

S&P CNX 500 index declined by 13.45 points to 782.40 points and CNX Midcap 200 moved down by 12.65 points to 678.95 points. The market witnessed 252,259 trades, involving 78.85 million shares, with a total turnover of Rs 16.03 billion.

The debentures traded were valued at Rs 3.37 million.

Today, 612 shares declined, 302 advanced, 92 remained unchanged while 31 securities hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty losers were: IPCL which fell by 6.04 per cent to Rs 107.35 from Rs 114.25, Telco 4.77 per cent to Rs 182.55 (191.70), Tata Power 4.21 per cent to Rs 80.80 (84.35), ICICI 3.86 per cent to Rs 69.65 (72.45) and Ranbaxy 3.77 per cent to Rs 578 (600.65).

The top gainers were: Grasim which shot up by 7.99 per cent to Rs 227 from Rs 210.20, Indian Rayon 7.76 per cent to Rs 116 (107.65), Tisco 0.42 per cent to Rs 120.05 (119.55), NIIT 0.22 per cent to Rs 1795.40 (1791.50) and P&G 0.15 per cent to Rs 1022.75 (1021.25).
