Pivotals rally on FII buying; Nifty up 27 points to 1046.95

Pivotals continued their rally on sustained buying support extended by foreign institutional investors as well as domestic financial institutions, and ended higher on the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty Index jumped up by 27.40 points to 1046.95 points from 1019.55 points of the previous day.

CNX Nifty Junior rose by 22.40 points to 1899.20 points from 1876.80 points while S&P CNX Defty improved by 22.05 points to 848.80 points from 826.75 points. S&P CNX 500 index appreciated by 13.22 points to 727.58 points from 714.36 points while CNX Midcap 200 edged up by 6.07 points to 632.55 points from 626.48 points.

The total turnover, involving 72.12 million shares in 290,350 trades, stood at Rs 24.89 billion and the debentures traded were valued at Rs 2.24 million.

Today, 540 securities gained, 379 declined, 92 remained unchanged while 65 shares hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: Orient Bank which shot up by 8.04 per cent to Rs 30.25 from Rs 28, Grasim 8.02 per cent to Rs 137.45 (127.25), SBI 8.02 per cent to Rs 197.35 (182.70), ' Indian Hotel Company 8.01 per cent to Rs 315.65 (292.25) and L&T 8.01 per cent to Rs 233.25 (215.95).

The top losers were: Cochin Refineries which slid by 7.06 per cent to Rs 125 (134.50), Smithkline Beecham 5.98 per cent to Rs 550 (585), Great Eastern Shipping 1.24 per cent to Rs 19.95 (20.20), Hindustan Petroleum 1.04 per cent to Rs 190 (192) and Gujarat Ambuja Cement 0.82 per cent to Rs 303 (305.50).
