Stock Talk

'Divestment is a new found backbone'

'I am optimistic. The big ticket PSU divestment will be the trigger that delinks us from Nasdaq,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

Sean : Sir, U must be a very happy man,2 big ticket divestments finally and u favourite stock at 861..my dealer tells me ibp was sold @ 1551 is it true
Ramesh Damani : Absolutely.

Sean : Sir,another stock BEL which has been u favourite at 121..Do u think the govt would actually privatise a defence manufacturing unit
Ramesh Damani : It will in 2-3 years.

ayan : Mr. Damani, Now that vsnl selloff by govt. is over and prise of 202 rs. is diclared what should we ( as you also have some shares)Do??
Ramesh Damani : I would hold them for a while.

ayan : Mr. Damaniji after very successful selloff( though I personally would have liked Pvt. company giving the money to govt. then IOC )what kind of effect you see on the market from tommorow??And in ths situation till the budget which scripts you recomend to buy from tommorow to exit before budget with 15-20% upside still left??
Ramesh Damani : I agree but money is money. It makes the divestment process serious and exciting.

Karan : Conratulations Ramesh, was great to hear the good news and see you on CNBC
Ramesh Damani : Hello everybody. Thanks for joining in. It's a great day for PSU Bulls

Karan : Now what price would you expect BPCL and CONCOR to get disinested at??
Ramesh Damani : I think Concor would be a very big deal. So would BPCL.

Sean : mr.Damani,Ima big fan of u and the divestment process, shouldnt we just rejoice today?????
Ramesh Damani : Absolutely.

alok : Ramesh, yr take on Compudyne Winfosystems at current prices @Rs. 38. Santa Monica Studio US has taken a stake and the company is focussing on multimedia now!
Ramesh Damani : It appears attractive. I own some.

investor : But Ramesh, there will not be much change in scenario, since Govt(IOC) only has control in IBP, Ya INVESTOR BENEFITED
Ramesh Damani : It shows a new found backbone which the market will notice. I am optimistic.

yahoo : so is the rsd finance.com project finally dead?
Ramesh Damani : Sorry. But looks like it.

Sean : Sir,Would u buy concor at these levels or think there is some room for correction
Ramesh Damani : Market will not correct in PSU easily. They are under owned.

alok : how do you see the market in coming 10 days given this succesfull divestment? Do you think this will provide the necessary breakout strentgth for the index to go beyond 3500 level?
Ramesh Damani : I think it will.

ConcernedInvestor : Rameshbhai could this big-ticket PSU disinvestment be THE trigger for the market?
Ramesh Damani : Yes. And will be the trigger that delinks us from NASDAQ.

alok : i don't own much of PSU stocks in my portfolio! which are the shares would u recommend for an year's perspective at current prices?
Ramesh Damani : Bharat Electronics, Container, all of which I own

ConcernedInvestor : I too would agree with you, but today's sensex movement was a bit lack-lustre, so why is market ignoring this important development?
Ramesh Damani : I think it will be better tomorrow.

salikh : Mr Ramesh Can u suggest me buying Novaritas at the current level
Ramesh Damani : Sure it is a good stock.

Joy : Rameshji,I bought TVS Motor by your advice at 188.Thanks a lot.Now should I hold it at current price. And I have Aptech bought at 83,what should I do with this junk stock.Regards.
Ramesh Damani : I would sell Aptech.

alok : what abt banking sector stocks? SBI and Corporation bank showed some strength off late but today most of them closed at days low? Do you think they have run out of steam in the short term or they have to go a long way? any in the sector u like?
Ramesh Damani : No. Keep an eye on them. I think they will move.

investor : wHAT ABOUT ipcl AND sci , THE NEXT TARGET
Ramesh Damani : SCI looks the best.

ConcernedInvestor : Rameshbhai, what would be your recommendation for a risk-conscious middle-aged investor with a time horizon of two years?
Ramesh Damani : Buy some IT-enabled and PSU stocks.

yahoo : the point i want to aks is even after disinvestment , a fool n his money will soon part , n all govts r more foolish n self serving , secondly the govt will not let the cos go out of their hands , so will there b a fundamental change in the management thought process n the professionalism , n growth stories of these stocks
Ramesh Damani : Watch the next round. You will see aggressive foreign bids. The government is serious

investor : but ramesh it seems there is a Stong Resistance in the counter of Hin TMT at 117/-, will it go up to 200
Ramesh Damani : Resistance is meant to be conquered.

alok : just now u wrote, Compudyne looks attractive at current levels. Have u gone through the results, they are pretty disappointing, i think. what do u think?
Ramesh Damani : They are. However they are positioning themselves for the future.

ConcernedInvestor : Thank you Rameshbhai, could you please list some of your favourites in IT enabled and PSU stocks, with safe entry prices?
Ramesh Damani : The three IT-enabled stocks I own are Geometric, E-serveand Hinduja TMT

smallinvesrot : hello rameshji, i c lot many more people joining this chat now a days, ur fan following is increasing!! how does it feel?
Ramesh Damani : It is flattering and a great responsibility. I hope I can help.

Abhi : What you want to say about buying Silverline at this Price..
Ramesh Damani : Avoid it.

KAMESH : Dear SIr, We have baught BEL at 95. today it has closed at the heighest level. What should be the target levels for the Same.
Ramesh Damani : I think it could be doubled.

jain : WHAT IS YOUR ADVISE ON INDIAN HOTELS
Ramesh Damani : Hold it for the medium-term.

alok : ramesh, i'm 31 year old and a full time investor. I manage a portfolio worth Rs. 10 lakh for myself and spend 24 hours on the market. It's my full time passion!can u suggest some readings, i must say i'm an avid reader!
Ramesh Damani : Try One up on Wall Street by Peter Lynch.

smallinvesrot : last time u advice to exit Mcdowll, i'm still holding it and targeting to sell at 60, u think its possible in near future?
Ramesh Damani : Sure it can. I was unhappy with the UB Deal. However, the business is very attractive. I still have some shares left.

investor : Ramesh , some time we feel if we can contact you twice a week for your call - u know you should be given a Trophy for your recommendations - Thanx
Ramesh Damani : Thanks for the kind words.

anil : do u think bpcl can go to 500 levels in the hope of disinvestment?
Ramesh Damani : It's a good chance.

jas : Rameshji, In all this PSU euphoria , some fundamental MNC Pharma stocks seem to have been ignored - Wyeth Lederle, Novartis. Relaxation of DPCO could be a big trigger..And isn't that an inevitable event ?
Ramesh Damani : You are right. Market is somewhat short-term oriented

ayan : Damaniji you advise buying Tata tea at current prise level of 162 rs or still some downside expected??
Ramesh Damani : It's a good price to buy it.

MANOJ : Dear Sir,Why do you think Pentasoft Technologies is trading at such a low P/E ratio despite being ninth largest software exporter among listed companies?
Ramesh Damani : I am not bullish on it.

alokr : do u believe in technical analysis of the market? If yes, any recommended readings on the art of trading?
Ramesh Damani : Read the books by Jow Granville.

yahoo : please thell me more about kale , geometric etc still good?
Ramesh Damani : Geometric looks good. Kale I am still studying.

srkrao : Will Infosys cross 4000levels ? Should we sell it for stop loss rate ?
Ramesh Damani : Looks hard to me.

Puneet002 : How is Citicorp looking at present levels? What are your targets for it.
Ramesh Damani : FY03 should bring good growth and profits. I am optimistic.

ayan : Rameshji Do you see Bharti shares giving a good surprise on the up side when it will get listed around 18th of fab??Which kind of upper prise you see ??
Ramesh Damani : I think they are well priced.

jas : Rameshji,I am fascinated by COlgate - negative working capital.. Look at profit potential if they decrease ad spend by a few percentage points..and shareholder friendly to boot...
Ramesh Damani : Market will pay for growth. They need to grow topline.

ayan : Rameshji Do you see frontline It stocks to rebound from tommorow as market has got the trigger now???
Ramesh Damani : I see PSU and old economy stocks doing better. Not tech.

Ramya Menon : hello sir.. nice to see you back... iam talking to you after a long time.. looking back.. your recos like UB , E Serve etc has proved 101% true in the hindsight.. one company which you never liked was SSi.. but i hear that their software division is doing very well even in these trying times given their strong domain knowledge.. your comments please..
Ramesh Damani : I have not heard that talk. Basicaly management has bloated capital too much.

investor : SIR YOUR CALL ON TATA TELECOM/VISUAL/POLARIS/KALE - I HAVE HEARD SO U ARE BUYING AGGRESSIVELY IN THESE STOCKS - IS THIS TRUE
Ramesh Damani : That is incorrect. We have sold some Tata Tele. The rest are small trades.

ConcernedInvestor : Rameshbhai, I just checked up prev transcripts. You have been very right about E-serve and Geometric which the market seems to have discovered. Do accecpt my hearty congratulations!! Do you see significant upside in these two scrips in a year or so?
Ramesh Damani : Sure I am hoping they would double.

smallinvesrot : u have sold tata tele?. why its no more exciting to u?
Ramesh Damani : Book some profits. Thanks all for joining in. See you next week.
