'IT enabled services is showing rapid growth'

'There is a great opportunity there. I am a strong believer in it. But Nasscom's projection of a $ 20 billion industry by 2008 is too ambitious,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

Bingo : Anna, according to people in CNBC, IPCL will not be above Rs 140.
Ramesh S Damani : Thanks everyone for joining. Just for info of long time readers, I will be on vacation for a few weeks after today. Please see Rediff for return date. Lets start. No one knows about IPCL. These are wild rumors

KHS : BPCL/HPCL/ONGC are extremely bullish on chart. Do you recommend buying at the current levels?
Ramesh S Damani : HP, BP are okay. I don't favour ONGC. It is not going to be privatised soon and it has very little inherent strength. It makes a lot of money due to its monopolistic position,

shortfuse : Now that the results are in, how do feel Compudyne will perform in the coming year? Should we still invest in this stock?
Ramesh S Damani : The mgmt has good plans. However, until we see the results and some steady numbers it is hard to be a long-term investor. Watch it and invest only a small amount.

baracuda : Both e-serve and geometric appear to be capped at around the 650 and 550 levels respectively when do you see the breakout occurring and should we add more at lower levels? Your answer will go a long way to solve my dilema
Ramesh S Damani : I think e-serve will break out after first quarter June results. I hope margins will expand in FY ending March 3. Geometric looks good too.

abha : You are extremely bullish on ITES sector so is Nassacom. Why is that Global Tele is ignored in the bourses as well as you.
Ramesh S Damani : Due to its problems of the past.

KHS : Rameshji,There are strong rumours in the market that FM will be replaced by Mr. Shourie? Do you feel so? If yes what will be the impact on the market? Please request Rediff.com to publish the transcript on the same day. It is very important for your followers?
Ramesh S Damani : Market will react positively to Mr Shourie's appt. Q is who will take over disinvestment

sbn : sir I have done buying in BPCL,BEML and BEL is it ok. What about ITI Ltd, profit making PSU? what do u feel .
Ramesh S Damani : It has a bloated work force. Tech is moving fast. However, I would trade in it. I own some

Bingo : Mr Damani, what is your take on HLL? I am looking at 15% annual returns with greater security for longer period of 4 to 5 years...
Ramesh S Damani : That is the right stock to hold for a defensive portfolio.

shereen : What about Crisil? Is it still worth buying at current level?
Ramesh S Damani : I think it looks good for patient investors.

V : Sir, any bad news on Macmillan. The stock seems to be steadily sinking
Ramesh S Damani : none that I know about. I think old investors could be selling Bonus shares.

retailinvestor : Mr Ramesh Damani:Gtl 1]Growth in networking eng.business 2]Cash Bal.552 Crore 3]Projected 7-10%Growth And Revenue Of 548 Crore 4]Net Profit of 102 Crore. What is your call?
Ramesh S Damani : I am not entirely comfortable with GTL mgmt. They have made mistakes.

rohan : Ramesh sir, Macmillian is at 273, Max 131, TVS 112, shall I hold or sell or can I accumulate?????????
Ramesh S Damani : I would buy Macmillan and Max at current rates. TVSE counter looks weak.

BASANTMAHESHWARI : The correction that has set in does not disturb the long term outlook of the market especially the ITES sector
Ramesh S Damani : This is the only sector bringing growth. I am strong believer in it.

VISHAL : My analysis shows that corporation bank is an excellent buy, but the market seems to think otherwise. Is there any problem with the stock?
Ramesh S Damani : It is a good bet I think.

retailinvestor : NASSCOM has revised its projection of ITES by 20% to $20 billion by 2008
Ramesh S Damani : We are all going to be rich if we can meet that figure. It is too ambitious.

Bingo : Mr Damani, TVSE was to announce its BPO plan. Has any announcement been made?
Ramesh S Damani : They have started contract BPO. Expect that segment to grow 15-18% Q on Q. More announcements are expected.

smallinvestor : (6th time)Have u studied Tata Infomedia, I think it compares well with Macmillan
Ramesh S Damani : I own both the shares. I prefer Macmillan

dipen : kindly give your opinion on AATCOM TECH. It is in IT enabled
Ramesh S Damani : The results were good. However I have not met mgmt. Hence, I have no call on it. Mgmt quality needs to be determined.

ayanshah : Damaniji any changer in your view for speculative bet of IT&T at current price ??You said last week Hold. As you will be on vacation Please elaborate on what to do in next few weeks when you are out?
Ramesh S Damani : Markets move to fast to give you an opinion,. However remain invested in ITES stocks. That is the big growth story ahead.

RajSeemsBearish : I bought SBI @257 on B-Day, should I hold or sell. Pls. do advise me on SBI.
Ramesh S Damani : I am bullish on SBI. I own it and would recommend investors buy it at current prices.

rajas : Sir, today there a flash news on Kale's website that --- Kale secures contract from Canadian North .......Wins a third order for its Airline Processing Centre (APC). Can I enter this counter at current rate (80/-). Pls, pls advice sir. Thanks
Ramesh S Damani : I have a new small trading position in it. However its size is still small so expect some volatility

KHS : Dear Sir, how is the Home Trade scam affecting the market? Will it affect further also as and when the details come out?
Ramesh S Damani : This is India. Nothing ever gets done. Life goes on.

V : Sir, you were bullish on the market. Then, you became wait and watch. Jesse Livermore used to make money in a bull market. Then he used to vanish for taking a vacation. Should we understand that your vacation signals, end of the oh-not-again-fizzled out bull run on the cursed Indian markets.
Ramesh S Damani : Not really. Just need a break and come back fresh. I haven't met too many rich market timers.

VISHAL : Can you list 7-10 good stocks to track over a time period of 3-5 years?
Ramesh S Damani : Good stocks for 1-3 years, E-serve, MacMillan, Geometric, Bharat Elect, Container Corp, Indian Hotels, Tata Tea, Max, are some good stocks for a long term portfolio

san : You told Punjab Bank IPO is not lucrative... It turned out to be a major success... What's your opinion now?
Ramesh S Damani : Being lucrative has nothing to do with my opinion. Markets have their own logic.

VISHAL : Can you please prioritize the following figures according to the influence over valuation of a company - P/E, topline earning growth, bottomline growth, book value, dividend, RoE, others that you might prefer?
Ramesh S Damani : Top line growth, R on Eq, Mgmt, Market cap those are imp

tigershark : Where are you going for a vacation. I know the q is personal but we love you so much and need you so much that we need to keep track of you hope all on this chat will agree with me
Ramesh S Damani : Thanks for the kind words

DREAMZ : Sir, how does Gati look at current market price? Is it safe to invest at this price
Ramesh S Damani : I think it is good at these price

Maulik : Rameshji, u only talk about the more popular stocks, but I am interested in bargains and have made investments in Munjal Showa, paper products, Sirpur paper mills. Pls comment on these stocks
Ramesh S Damani : BEML was no bargain when it was at 18. BEL was at 45 six months back. I prefer unnoticed stocks too. Munjal and Paper Prod look attractive to me. In fact, I bought some Paper prod. Small qty.

smallinvestor : (6th time)what is your latest find?, its long time u did not recommend any fresh scrip.
Ramesh S Damani : Market has been a bit sluggish, not offering any fresh ideas. Nothing I can recommend with a great deal of conviction.

sanjay : Sir,i have taken 200 shares of BEL at 198 & 100 shares of Concor at 298. What is your opinion? Will it move up?
Ramesh S Damani : Yes. Keep them. I own them both

anil : I have bought HTMT at 240 should I sell it now?
Ramesh S Damani : you could. I booked some profits around 325 levels.

pRIYA : How much portion of his income a person should invest in Capital Market ?????
Ramesh S Damani : If you are below 35 invest 75% in the market. You should be able to handle risk.

ayanshah : Sir Do you see worst over for Tea Ind. as still prices are not remunerative in South where Tata Tea has part of its Gardens and according to its Manager's interview recently their selling price in auction is around 35-40 Rs. compare to production cost of around 55 Rs.
Ramesh S Damani : At prices of Rs 175 everything is discounted.

sidsinha : what is your opinion abour Balrampur Chini Mills , considering that sugar decontrol might happen in near future
Ramesh S Damani : Looks good and is at a good dividend,

invesro : But Sir, Gati counter is very illquid and even the script has not moved up much in last 3 months - any specific reason
Ramesh S Damani : Nothing particular. It will languish and then move up sharply in one month. Cant timeit

SS : Damaniji, any good stocks in Banking sector ???.
Ramesh S Damani : SBI is the biggest and the best. I would first buy that.

invesro : Sir, Rakesh has got more than 2.5 % equity of TCI industries - should we enter at current rates?
Ramesh S Damani : I am not following that stock

smallinvestor : (5th time)Thank u sir, at least tell us few scrips which u feel we need to watch (apart from those already recommended by u)
Ramesh S Damani : Keep an eye (trading)on Melstar, Telco.

maheshp : Sir, I was just reading some book by Peter Lynch, he says that we should look for sectors which are not popular in the market, and find stocks in them which give steady cash flows, any u remember
Ramesh S Damani : Thats what we do. PSU's were not popular last year. No one had heard about ITES. Liquor shares seem a good sector to pu tmoney in,

Jaitley : Dear Mr. Damani , you had opened us up to the possibilities of re-rating in scrips like VSNL and IBP well before the disinvestment time. We have reaped the benefits of IBP. What are your views on VSNL in the short run (considering that Tata's have announced that they'll accept only 20%) and medium run?
Ramesh S Damani : I don't think it will move up like IBP. However it should do well over time.

vikas : Your price target for MACMILLAN, ESERVE, BEL IN 2 yrs time
Ramesh S Damani : E-serve if we are lucky could be the giant of the ITES business. Its market cap today is 750 crs or $150 million. The industry in 2008 will be bigger than 8-10Billion Dollars. The opportunity is huge,

jedi : Ramesh, what should I do with BEML? I had bought at Rs 55? Should I book profits?
Ramesh S Damani : I would hold it,.

V : ALFA LAVAL, BAJAJ AUTO, BPCL, CIPLA, CONCOR, CRISIL, DRL, GEOMETRIC, GLAXO, GLE NMARK, HIMAT, SEIKE SEIDE, HIND. INKS, HROH, INFY, J.B.CHEMICALS, NIIT, PFIZER, SBI, SMTH, TITAN, TTEA are the stocks recommended by the experts at Capital Ideas conf. which are your top picks out of these
Ramesh S Damani : I was the moderator at that conference. Not a speaker.

sidsinha : Is it worth selling Max India ( 5252 shares ) bought at 400 Rs
Ramesh S Damani : I would hold it. It will take time.

invesro : Sir pl. Reply - Rakesh is in trouble - being very close to him u must be sensing something - it is very imp. For the market and a word from u will help us a lot - his nexus with home trade
Ramesh S Damani : it is purely rumor mongering. He is fine and remains the leader of this Bull Market. The reports are baseless in my opinion!

Ticker : (100th time) MAARS and GAIL are worth holding ???.
Ramesh S Damani : Maars nothing special. GAIL if it is disinvested. Not likely soon

jedi : Is the Karur Vysya Stock a good one to enter at the current price and is it still cum bonus/rights?
Ramesh S Damani : It looks good. I am holding on

smallinvestor : (9th time)Any ideas on Mascon global and Mars software?, happy journey and best wishes
Ramesh S Damani : No and thanks

lomba : How much do you charge per chat session?
Ramesh S Damani : I enjoy it. Its voluntary,

njshah : Sir, is there any law that if one has 5% of equity shares of a particular co. he becomes director of that co.
Ramesh S Damani : No rule like that

buffetwannabe : In response to question on e-serve, why are you comparing market cap with market size of BPO. Should it not be compared to sales?
Ramesh S Damani : Look at the size of the opportunity

Prasanna : Please answer may question.... IBP shares value is fluctuating very much. What may be future value of IBP shares? Up or down?
Ramesh S Damani : My sense is the untendered shares of IBP will trade much lower.

ayanshah : I don't have Mcmillan, Eserve, Geometric or Max in my portfolio. As you are on vacation and we know sometime strangely market provides great opportunity to buy. Around what levels you suggest us to buy this stocks
Ramesh S Damani : If you are a long term investor buy them at current market prices. Timing the market is not easy,.

invesro : PL. ADVIUCE ON BUYING OF APOLLO HOSPITAL, ESCORTS, MC. DOWELL AT WHAT PRICES THESE SHOULD BE BOUGHT , WHAT WILL BE THE DOWNSIDE OF MC MILAN , WHY MARKETS ARE DRIFING DAY BY DAY
Ramesh S Damani : They all look okay. I own them all. The economy is drifting along too.

Ticker : (15th time)Any thoughts about Global Trust & Centurion. Worth buying at current levels? What abt the rumors of their takeover by foreign banks .
Ramesh S Damani : I have no clue about a takeover.

ramesh1 : Rameshji, I feel I flex could be available at 500-600 range in the market once it is listed. Which is a better buy e-serve or i-flex?
Ramesh S Damani : i am partial to e-serve. Though flex will be a hot issue.

ayanshah : Damaniji How many shares out of 100 Do you expect Tatas to take in VSNL open offer which is now closed
Ramesh S Damani : My sense is 75-80%

Maulik : RAMESHJI, I LIKE PICKING UP STOCK THAT ARE UNDERVALUED AND WOULD GO UP PURELY ON STRONG FUNDAMENTALS AND NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE DRIVEN BY OPERATORS. WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST?
Ramesh S Damani : Try Mcdowell. You are getting30% of Indian spirit market for 200 cr market cap.

V : Sir, in your view, who are the 5 top most shrewdest investors in India, whether managing proprietary money or public.
Ramesh S Damani : Unfortuantely they are mostly media shy and don't want publicity.

vikas : Your ultimate target for e serve, Macmillan, BEL
Ramesh S Damani : Dont limit the good things in life. Lets wait for the bull market to unfold.

saurabh : Damanji, is this the rite time to invest in low value stocks, i have read a lot abt such stocks being undervalued, eg. cybertech, goldtech, klgsystel
Ramesh S Damani : Low price does not imply value. A bogus stock at 8 bucks is expensive.

invesro : GIVEN 1 LAC RS. HOW WILL U INVEST % TERMS -SECTOR WISE
Ramesh S Damani : IT Enabled 50% PSU 30%, Others 10%

ra : What abt the education sector: NIIT and SSI a good time 2 buy?
Ramesh S Damani : I would not buy SSI. NIIT I trade in.

maheshp : Which are the best companies owned by the government which are not listed yet? Which you would be eager to buy once they are listed
Ramesh S Damani : Quite a few. Like Airport Auth, Telecom cons, AIR, DD

HingoNY : Please suggest one or two PSU stocks for a trading call (2 months)
Ramesh S Damani : FOr trading BEML, and Rashtriya Chemical Fertilisers and maybe HOCL. For trading. I own all 3.

saurabh : Damanji, with all sectors in a bad shape, if u r asked to invest in one sector, which sector will u like to invest ur money in the long run.
Ramesh S Damani : I say this repeatedly. IT Enabled is a great op.

buffetwannabe : Market turnover has increased from Rs. 300 crore (BSE) in early 90s to over Rs. 12000 crore (NSE and BSE) today. Will this continue and what does it signify?
Ramesh S Damani : Mkt turnover will increase in a bull market. It has made the process more democratic,.

ra :  y are u so biased on NIIT and always hostile on SSI
Ramesh S Damani : u asked for my view.

ramesh1 : Rameshji, When do u think CONCOR will get disinvested?
Ramesh S Damani : Yes. In 1-2 years time

harpreet : In this investment trend all PSU stocks seems to be good. How would you rank them (best, good etc.) for buying at current price.
Ramesh S Damani : They have moved up and are not quite the bargains.

HingoNY : Is banking sector looking good over next one year for investment ?? Especially SBI
