'Fiscal deficit is out of control'

'Confidence remains poor. We need to tackle corruption without which we are stuck in the mud,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

sk : hello rameshji
Ramesh S Damani : Hello everyone. Thanks for joining. Let's start.

kirit : sir what is your take on the Bharti IPO?
Ramesh S Damani : My initial reaction is to avoid it. Remeber they took Bharti private at some silly valuation. I am not comfortable with them.

hello : what is yr idea abt the latest weakness in IT stocks, how long it will last?
Ramesh S Damani : Results have been disappointing. The tech sector needs more visibility.

hello : and even shares like Hinduja TMT and Bharat electronics are showing weakness?
Ramesh S Damani : Yes they are. However let's wait for Q3 results before deciding.

sk : we have seen market giving no direction . What is your idea
Ramesh S Damani : It is sluggish. Undertone is weak.

Mahesh : Ramesh ji, Gujarat Ambuja has posted good results... I hold a few shares of the cement co.. should i hold on or sell them off?
Ramesh S Damani : I would hold them at the current time.

hello : when do you think market will start differentiating between IT and IT enabled stocks. their prospects differ widely, but they (stocks0 move almost in tandem?
Ramesh S Damani : That is not correct. The IT enabled companies have gone up 3-4 times. They have not also fallen and are close to tops. Market has started making a difference.

karan : sir what did you think of wipro results? it was definitely below expectations unlike infosys
Ramesh S Damani : Poor growth will dampen prospects.

Piyush : I heard that petrol prices could be freed soon... will it be a good idea to go in for oil company shares now?
Ramesh S Damani : BP might be attractive. I own a few shares

investorguide : Ramesh ji, what U say about Hindustan Motors..is it a right time to buy it at 6.75...is it worty investing for short time
Ramesh S Damani : I am not following motors.

hello : i have invested in companies like Bharat Electronics, E-serve, Geometric and Hinduja TMT! Do you think i should sit calm and wait for next one-two years and these shares will almost double?
Ramesh S Damani : I think they have a good future.

sk : I have seen hinduja tmt earlier results , they are very fine and even the company is running very good.do u still hold recommedantion to buy
Ramesh S Damani : Let us see Q3 results.

ghosh : The Calcuta attack didn't have too much affect on the stock markets, did it?? but isn't it quite scary? godknows who'll be the target next
Ramesh S Damani : In India we have an "incident" every 3 months- political, economic and financial. Learn to live with it.

Rohinton : Good afternoon, Mr Damani: As a pre-budget bargain hunter, what would you want to buy? And do you think the Budget could give a boost to the capital markets?
Ramesh S Damani : Not done that research yet. It is too early.

alan : what would be the kind of budget this time? don't u think the FM has a lot of repairing to do, whether it's stock markets, divestment, india fighting competition against china etc.. there really have to be lots of reforms, don't u think? could you highlight some important URGENT requirements on a priority basis for India?
Ramesh S Damani : They are. I am not hopeful things like corruption will get sorted. However the telecom deregulation is a big plus.

hello : at what prices geometric becomes an appealing buy?
Ramesh S Damani : Around say Rs 285.

abhijeet : SIr, could tell me a few harma shares that high good long-term strenght?
Ramesh S Damani : I recently bought some Wyeth and Dr Reddy. Reddy was recomended recently by Oscar Shafer in Barrons. He is well known and expects a price of $60. It was $19 when he recommended it.

sk : what is your idea about BEML. It has risen too fast. At what price we should enter
Ramesh S Damani : I would wait for a reaction.

sk : what is your idea about Kale consultant
Ramesh S Damani : I am watching and waiting for the results. I like there thrust.

deepika : do u think greeting card companies can still make profits in this day and age? what do u think of archies results?

Ramesh S Damani : If disinvested maybe Rs 500.

investorguide : Sir..U din't say anything about HFCL..is it good to buy at this rate..for short term investment
Ramesh S Damani : I would avoid it.

Curious : Dear Ramesh, every other day I see Yahswant Sinha, Jalan and others say that the Indian economy is hale and hearty. IS there something we are missing to note which they hide? Or is the economy really well?
Ramesh S Damani : Fiscal deficit is out of control. Confidence remains poor. We need to tackle corruption without which we are stuck in the mud.

bull : ur opinion on the healthcare sector & apollo hospitals
Ramesh S Damani : I like Apollo.

Nitin : What do you think NIIT will rise now?
Ramesh S Damani : Q3 results will be poor. However there appears to be a buyer on the counter. It may rise after the results are out.

ks : as per your guidence i am modified my portfolio like beml, concor, cadila any good buys mcdowell
Ramesh S Damani : I was disappointed by the UB deal. So disappointed that I soldsome holding in McDowell. Mr Mallya does not have shareholders interest at heart. That is clear.

subbu : sir is TELCO a good buy at present levels given the volatily it had today
Ramesh S Damani : I would avoid Telco.

manoj : Dear Sir, Recently I have purchased 600 nos. of HCL Tech shares @ Rs 280. Kindly advise me, whether I have hold the same till that amount or I have to sell those shares.
Ramesh S Damani : That is a tough call to make on an individual stock. You have to go by your own feel.

debashis : what about the prospect of alstom power and indogulf corporation
Ramesh S Damani : I own and like Altsom power.

AMEY : WHAT WILL BE THE STATUS OF INDIAN HOTELS
Ramesh S Damani : It's a cheap stock. It will pick up when tourism picks up.

Ramesh S Damani : I think so.

ROHIT : SIR MY QUESTION REGARDING BEST FMCG STOCK,YOU HAVE NOT ANSWERED

shukla : boss, no reply on corporation bank ??? not bankable at 120 level ???
Ramesh S Damani : I would hold it at current levels.

veenit : it seem that something is cooking at IDBI Bank wht is ur opinion
Ramesh S Damani : They could do well at the price, however you get the baggage of IDBI.

ROHIT : ROHIT says, SIR IS TULIP HOTELS A GOOD BYE AFTER THEIR ACQUISITION OF JUHU CENTAUR

sk : What should be the target price of BEML / IBP/ BEL

Ramesh S Damani : Ideas are not like bananas. Theydon't grow on trees. They require work and come when they do. Certainly not every week. This is not a tip show, but a forum for discussion.

Ramesh S Damani : Hold.

Ramesh S Damani : I am waiting for Q3 results. It looks good from a long-term perspective because they are in exciting business.

Ramesh S Damani : That is a problem.

naveen : What do you think about newly entering market and picking up some shares?
Ramesh S Damani : Everyone young should invest in stocks.

Ramesh S Damani : That is the nature of the market.

atul : This is not the answer... You are the market person and a reputed broker... you should say about the market forecast for the year.
Ramesh S Damani : You have to distinguish between art and science. No one can consistently predict the future. If he could, he would be the richest man in the world. We occasionaly take stabs. Educated guesses. December is still too far away and markets are mixed.
