'The Sensex could rally to 3650-3800'

Ramesh Shrichand Damani thinks the current rally is more of a technical correction.

vikash : hello i am vikash from patna ,sir i have a simple question to you the question is - why in india the purchasing of any object through internet is so popular?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Hello everyone and welcome to the show. Internet purchasing is not very popular in India though

CalmBull : Ramesh, I hold Tata Finance - please advise if it is worth holding on to.
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I would prefer Kotak. Tata Fin has exposure to stocks like Vakrangee

CalmBull : Hello Ramesh - Is any news on Kotak expected which will drive the stock up ??-Like you, I believe Uday Kotak has a great vision and wants to be the best in his line of businesses.
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : No new news. However he is a seasoned player and a survivor

DEVEN : WHAT ABOUT ENGINIEERS INDIA
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : PSU stocks are stuck again.Great co but no appreciation of the company by GOI

DEVEN : RAMESH I ALSO HOLD ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITES BHARAT ELECTRONICS BUT AT A HIGHER RATE. PL COMMENT
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : The results were excellent. I still own it. However no excitement on PSU Stocks

bimal : What is AVM (Additional Volational Margin)? If BSE applies AVM on certain script, how does itaffect the trading ( either buy or sell) ?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : It reduces incentive to buy since marginis higher

rangan : Today investors are literally squeezed on one side by sebi nse and bse with each one playing their part and on the other side by promoters like dalmia maloo subash chandra and other software majors where are we going no place for small investors in another 5 years all good companies will be taken over by mnc and we will be left with lousy companies promoters.and we cannot go to mutual funds or uti another institution going on investing left and right and cetre in all lousy companies pl comment?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : The market needs to listen to the complaints of investors like you

rangan : pl state what are 4 financial ratios an investor to look for in a company before investing?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Price to Earnings, Price to Sales, Dividend Yield, Gross Margins

bimal : But online purchasing is sure the method of the future
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Not in a technically unqualified society

invester : Hello Ramesh, I have purchased lot of PSU stocks based on your advice like BEL, Concor. All of which are massively down. What should I do now?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : The co's are doing well. You need to wait for disinvestment before value is unlocked

chets : Ramesh what is the reason for sudden negative perseption on PSU stock by u
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Nothing gets done in terms of disinvestment. It just does not finish. That's why.

rangan : ramesh i have invested in shares like cg igarashi where there is always growth and chairman has promised to distribute 33 prcent as div every year i think no mgt has declared like this before tranparency and focussed pl comment
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I have not read that statement. How much did they pay last year.

CalmBull : Are you still bullish on HDFC Bank??
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I have some. I like it.

chets : what is your view on the comodity cycle world wide post your meet with Jim as he is very bulish on that
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : In rate cuts, lower int rates are bullish for comm. However I am no expert on them, gas prices are going higher.

invester : No Ramesh but tell me frankly, will BEL ever get divested?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I believe in the next 3-5 years yes. However it is a very competitive PSU which is a tech leader.

invester : SO should I wait for divestment process of BEL?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Yes. The dividend is also attractive

invester : Ramesh, whats ur view on market? Sensex prediction
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : We could see the Sensex rally to 3650-3800 levels

rangan : online purchasing in india a long way to go there is no credibility and no system where customers word will be taken for granted as a consumer we are most disorganised this is my view pl comment
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : You are right. We need to fund a consumer and investment protection site

chets : What impact does the latest GAS price will have on US economy and WHat is your view on California Power crisis? U think can happen in INDIA too
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Alumunium prices will go up because they use power. India is having a power crisis for the last 50 years. Just go outside Bombay

invester : What sort of profit growth do u expect in BEL?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : 20-25% per annum. Look at the taxes they paid

rangan : dont you think sales per employee is also a parameter one should look at?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : In retailing co's or product co's

deepa : how come himachal is suddenly doing well?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Technical bounce

rohit : What is the future of investors
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I think it is a bit rough but markets will recover

rangan : mr ramesh buy neyveli lignite a tip given by me it is a power company cah accruals expected 700 crores this year no interest 2000 mw another expansion for 750 mw buy buy pl comment
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I have some of it. Its a great idea. The value of power gen is more than the market cap. However PSU stigma is on.

solo :  are we in a bull market or its only a correction?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I believe it is a technical correction

krish : should i buy SCI at rs.35.00?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Look okay to me

mahesh : the chairman of walmart has become the richest in the world. do u see some sort of boom in the indian retail sector
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Not at the current time. Retail is a local business. Even Marks and Spencers is struggling. K Mart in the US went bust. Wal Mart is an exception

sharad : hello ramesh do u think indian stock market need any analysis. when market can be take on ride by biggies
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : In the long run markets are a weighing machine not a popularity machine. Value returns

invester : SHould one trade or invest?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Find your skill and do that

idd : How far is the effect of US economy slow down on our share market
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : It will be dramatic

bimalaggarwal : Polaris Soft. has announced bonus share at the rate of 1:2. Are the share prices expected to rise to this effect ?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : that will depend on next year's growth primarily

invester : What do u prefer SIr? Trade or invest?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : i am ambidextrous

Satish : with it majors announcing the results, is this the right time to go long for tech scrips?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Worst is now factored in the price

God : Don't you think the markets are irrational.... especially when the markets react to all kinds of crazy forces?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : markets are never rational. To assume that is a mistake

invester : Ramesh, don;t u think that US slowdown will give opportunity to our markets as funds will get directed to the regions growing faster?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Some people believe that. Money will flow. However I am afraid US investors will get out of equity

mno : Ramesh, Did Nasdaq really have on indian markeet?or it is a smoke screen for our players to work with?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Yes it does. No question about it.

sunil : what is your view on the zee. Is there value at sub 100 levels.
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : i think so. The network is valuable.

sandip : Rameshji, Sebi has also included your name in the scam. What is your stand?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : It's not my name for purposes of clarification. There are 8 Damanis having cards at BSE

invester : What do you think of GAIL, ONGC, CESC
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I like GAIL and own it

invester : What do u think about Monsanto and COlgate?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I like and own both of them

CalmBull : Do you like BHEL?? Is this a good time to pick up some shares of BHEL and Tata Power??
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : tata power and abb are picks in power

bimalaggarwal : Must we DMAT our share certificates ?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : yes or you will not be able to sell them

invester : What is the story in Monsanto?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Good value and good prospects. Due for a bonus

ashish : Why our Index is so dependable on Nasdaq Stock which was not the case eariler?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : We have only lately become a tech destination

mahesh : what is ur prime pick in the media sector sir.
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I have no sig positions.

invester : Most of the companies are going private now. And these MNCs are not showing performance purposely so they can go private. e.g. Castrol, Cabot, Hoganas, Sandvik, etc. What is your view on it?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : that is a huge risk in these stocks. Govt should stop this. Its unfair to shareholders

san_dip : Rameshji, whether a small investor should invest for long term or short term or stay out of market?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : You should put a %age of your income into markets. Try an index fund ifyou do not like picking stocks

ritesh : whats urs predictions of satyam, hughes and sterlite and infosys 1 year from now?pl tell
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Hughes looks interesting.

Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Seems unlikely

Ramesh Shrichand Damani : The merger with IFCI is bad news

Topbull : Can you suggest me on Tisco, telco for long term
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I own neither. But telco may be the pick between the two

CalmBull : Ramesh thanks for your replies. My last question - Is Monsanto cheap at current price??
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I think so

Radhakrishnan : What are the prospects of Visual Soft in light of its FY 2001 results
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : If they can repeat results of 2001 scrip could double. I have a small position in Visual

san_dip : Sir, I didn't understand? You said % age of income can be invested. How much %age?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : At 30 yrs maybe 70% at 50 yrs maybe 50%, 50-100-age is a good thumb rule.Sometimes more sometimes less

hi : Is Kale Consultancy a good buy at the current levels?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I am trying to research it.

sunilrao : Can you name 5 stocks you wouldnt like to be associated with in the coming quarter ?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Generaly the momentum stocks

Ram : Is there any chance that HFCL & Global Tele reach 50% of what they were in Feb 01
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : History does not favour it

raprasad : Rameshji,Why are all the brokers who become famous get caught in some scams? (eg Anand Rati, Harshad mehta, Ketan Parekh)
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : that is sad

guava642 : what do u think is an ideal pe ratio for frontline tech stocks
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : it should be a discount to growth rate

Satish : what about short selling in A1 tech scrips? Is there going to be a bear rally or presently is this only a correction. when can u expect the market to stabilize.
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : That we must ask Sebi.

ashish : Mr. Damani, I agree we have become Tech destination lately, but that is one of the segment out of many. Our GDP is constant. Market is huge. As far as tech company goes it's hot ballon? then why depend on IT?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Hot baloon in terms of stock price. But tech is our future. I believe that

Topbull : Sir..if you don't mind..which is your favourite scrip amongst all
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Ilike ESERVE in IT enabled around 145. I own it and hope it grows fast.

anurag : Hi, Ramesh . You didnit reply to my question. Shall I go for the IT shares now or wait for some more time..
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I would start buying. 95% falls are as steep as it gets. Look for co's that will have earnings next year.

raprasad : Rameshji,What is ur opinion about the markets. Whether under the present circumstances this is the peak?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Without short selling it is hard to get an accurate picture of the market

smartboyinuk : Mr Damani, I am in London for almost a year now and the market is very depressed here. Do you think India will perform better than the US and UK stock markets ?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : I doubt it. Global equities look bad to me

guava642 : hi ramesh, i have a suggestion why dont channels like cnbc who feature analysts do a post report when they should bring the same analyst to show his picks. this way at least small investor will not be hoodwinked
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : Good idea write to them

raprasad : Rameshji,Don't u think that the Bull run & the stock hammering that take place are normal stock market operations as the balance cannot tilt in one favour? To reduce the panic in these circumstances educating the people about it is necessary?
Ramesh Shrichand Damani : you are right and have mature views. I agree with you, Good luck see you all next week. Bye
