'The next boom is in IT-enabled or biotech'

'Markets change. I am convinced we will get back to a digital economy,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

HA : Is MTNL worth buying now?
Ramesh S Damani : It should do well in the current climate. I own some.

MANOJ : Sir, Do you think MINDTECK is a good bet even though it's quarterly performance has not been impressive?
Ramesh S Damani : It's a small company, but focussing on a good vertical. I own a little bit.

rajadharma : rameshji what us the short target of BPCL
Ramesh S Damani : Let good things develop. It's hard to set price target.

harip : what do u think of Kale Consultants?
Ramesh S Damani : It seems not ready yet for prime time. It is not yet ripe for plucking.

rajadharma : i have bought CONCORE & KARUR VYAS bank at 272 & 258 as per youe adivce what we be the position in two months ?
Ramesh S Damani : Both look good to me. Karur Vyas could be a takeover candidate.

anaam : Now is the budget time & everyone is busy guessing its outcome which seems like "survival" measures. Govt is always used to take measures when it is cornered. Solution is only simle....(1) Improve the efficincy of govt depts by only 10% & (2)Erradicate corruption
Ramesh S Damani : You are right. Especally point two. Now if Delhi could see it too.

alokr : what's ur opinion abt Concor at current prices, the chances of disinvestment atleast in teh short term have faded away as the govt has announced to invest around Rs. 1400 crore in this company?
Ramesh S Damani : The government speaks with many voices. I believe they will divest in 1-2 years.

LGanguly : Rameshbhai , I am thinking of applying for 5 lakh NSE FnO memebership . Should I rather get a VAT from some established broker like you ? I love my trading privacy somwhat. Are the exams tough ? .
Ramesh S Damani : I am not a NSE Member. The cost is more than Rs 5 lakhs.

rajadharma : what is your outlook on NEYVELLY LIGNITE & EISCHER MOTORS in short term ?
Ramesh S Damani : Both look okay to me.

KRISH : Mr.DAMANI, WHAT IS YOUR CALL ON MROTEK
Ramesh S Damani : Avoid it.

guptaone : hi rameshji!! hatsoff to ur somany good calls in the recent past!what do u advise on ub@150 levels & mcdowell@53 for a period of 2years? i think both should give decent returns!
Ramesh S Damani : In that time frame, both look okay. I have a position in both.

KHS : Dear Sir, your opinion about Blue Dart and Gati courier? can we enter at the current levels?what can be the targets
Ramesh S Damani : I think so. They are attractive.

trader : sir,i am a long term investor. i bought beml at 39 should i sell at 55 or hold it post budget,is it overpriced?
Ramesh S Damani : That is a hard question to answer. They are doing well this year. Let's wait and see. I am holding for now.

klnn : rameshji Naraas hai kya? Sci @ 65 is still a good pick?
Ramesh S Damani : I would book some profit in the Budget rally around 70.

KRISH : Mr. Damani , please advice on compudyne winfosys
Ramesh S Damani : Good potential. Not ready yet.

smallinvestor : hi rameshji, any ideas on Excel ind and godfrey?, infact which u prefer, ITC, GODFREY OR VST
Ramesh S Damani : I own godfrey and ITC. I sold VST.

investor : If karur Vysya can be a takeover target then at what price do u feel it will go
Ramesh S Damani : It would be far in excess of current prices. Maybe Rs 500 plus.

KRISH : Thanks a lot for your advice on Hinduja TMT. Any other scrip please.
Ramesh S Damani : I recently bought a small trading position in TVS Electronics at around Rs 40.

klnn : I saw your answer on Compudyne. It has jumped to 55 from 38 in one month.Still not ripe?
Ramesh S Damani : Price has nothing to do with ripeness. Remember the prices of the momentum stocks.

investor : What is your call on Geometric and E-serve
Ramesh S Damani : Hold both these shares like Iam. They should double in a year's time.

smallinvestor : what so attractive about TVS electronics
Ramesh S Damani : Good management. They are working with Verifone which is good.

anaam : Income from ITES is offshor? Is it taxable? You see any sops in this budget to ITES?
Ramesh S Damani : I believe it is not taxable.

investor : U still recommend buying them at current prices - geometric - e-serve
Ramesh S Damani : Yes with a one year view.

smallinvestor : u never spotted J&K bank and LICHFL, any particular reason u ignored them?
Ramesh S Damani : You can follow only so many stocks.

Anand : ramesh what is your take on elbee services which is also into courier business. the company has also turned around for the last quarter.
Ramesh S Damani : Dont like it.

harip : is ABB still a good hold? Any price target please..
Ramesh S Damani : They are doing well. I have booked some profits. But I would hold onto it.

SunilW : BEML Do you expect disinvestment in 2002? Excellent run up in price. Do they have a bloated workforce??
Ramesh S Damani : They have 12000 employess, 4000 extra in it. Would cost Rs 400 crore VRS. They have a lot of assets though.

smallinvestor : thanks damaniji, I will go with ur recommendation on TVS, one of my friend was telling me to put all my money in BPCL, what is ur take?
Ramesh S Damani : TVS is just a trading call.

sanjay : I have bought some indian hotels . how long shd i wait and at what expected price shd i sell it.
Ramesh S Damani : Wait for the tourist cycle torebound.

ayan : Rameshji Do you expect Bharti shares to get lift if in budget FDI cap increases??
Ramesh S Damani : Sure.

smallinvestor : if amy announcement is not made in budget, then do u think still PSU's like BEL and CONCOR will remain attractive?
Ramesh S Damani : Yes. they are good businesses.

KRISH : Mr. Damani what is do you mean by trading call. short term. please advice
Ramesh S Damani : I have not studied it in depth. This is for a quick trade. It may be good. Time will decide.

Lohit : In which camp are the big bankers like Hemendra Kothari and Kotak nowadays ? Do you think they are looking to undermine the IT enabled TEJI .
Ramesh S Damani : No.

arun : rameshji, You were so right when an year back or so i heard you on cnbc saying the market will go down but i dint believe you, but now u seem to be the most perfect for me. any way thanks, ,please answer why is GAIL not going up? should i make a distress sell now and jump into some other stock?
Ramesh S Damani : Sometimes we get lucky. I have been wrong too. Generally the way to make money is to buy good stocks at great valuations.

KRISH : Mr. Damani can u please answer my query on tata tele.--- tobuy at this level
Ramesh S Damani : I sold it too early. However it looks good.

investor : Sir, u also come on Al India Radio - after budget - this time can u please give me the timings and date
Ramesh S Damani : On March 1, on 107.1 FM.

bull : Why doesn't the market generally believe in India's Digital future? Just two years back they were all gung-ho. Irrational optimism. And now -- Irrational pessimism! Whereas actually the outsourcing story is just unfolding! Apart from software outsourcing, we have Business Process Outsourcing (BPO a.k.a. IT-enabled), hardware design outsourcing, hardware component manufacturing, Back-office operations...Is it a case of once bitten twice shy?.
Ramesh S Damani : Markets change. However, we will get back to a digital economy. I am conviced.

MOHAN : Dear Damaniji. Expectaion of next boom is IT Enabled or biotech.
Ramesh S Damani : IT enabled.

KRISH : Sir, can u please answer my questions? on shyam tele and hindustan zinc as i am your ardent follower!!
Ramesh S Damani : Thanks. I am not bullish on Shyam. Zinc is a divestment play.

Anand : Ramesh, any new stocks on which you are doing research.
Ramesh S Damani : I bought a small quantity of TVS Electronics. SBI and BHEL look good for a Budget play. I think market will go up after the Budget. Thanks all for joining see you next week. Bye.
