The Mohinder Amarnath Chat

Mohinder Amarnath Prem Panicker* (Tue Dec 10 19:54:55 1996 IST):

dasdf>> the selectors have confirmed Sachin as the skipper, but haven't yet announced the 16. They are expected to, either later tonight or early tomorrow... we will let you know as soon as we get the info.

lavanya (Tue Dec 10 19:55:12 1996 IST):

mr. amarnath does vinod kambli have such a potential for a comeback?

Prem Panicker* (Tue Dec 10 19:55:37 1996 IST):

leg stump>> *grin* Don't remind me about it... the server crashing, and some idiots logging in, didn't make things any better... but the game was fun, right? And hey, thanks for the support... :-)

Smith (Tue Dec 10 19:56:37 1996 IST):

Jimmy I agree with leg stump, you and prem will be a great pair for the Rediff Live Coverage, Please !!!

Prem Panicker* (Tue Dec 10 19:56:59 1996 IST):

leg stump>> Hey, spare Mr Amarnath, he is doing live coverage for Star Sports, on television... and as for us pairing together, if he ever came on live coverage, I would just shut up and listen, like all the rest of you guys. :-)

Mohinder Amarnath (Tue Dec 10 19:57:26 1996 IST):

Smith: tHE '83 WORLD CUP was something like a dream come true and I don't think people expected us to do well but we have a well knit side for one day cricket and thats the reason we manged to do so well in all matches we played as a team and It was a mixture of experience and youth it is very diff to say who played well in which game it was a team effort and meeting West Indies in the final was the most happiest momment in my cricketing career.

leg stump (Tue Dec 10 19:58:08 1996 IST):

Jimmy do you think that the game is over glamourised nowadays and that the cricketers are getting closer to the film star category?? during your days I found cricketers to be more sincere and human in their approach to the game except for a few of them. Do you think that the airs these boys put up today is a good thing for the game and its future??

Smith (Tue Dec 10 19:58:40 1996 IST):

Com'on Prem! It was so kind of you!!!!!

Prem Panicker* (Tue Dec 10 20:00:04 1996 IST):

Smith>> Kind of me? Sorry, pal, I didn't get that... :-0

Mohinder Amarnath (Tue Dec 10 20:00:05 1996 IST):

Lavanya: Kambli is a very fine plaayer but he had picked up some faults in his technique while facing fast bowling thats why he has been out of the team but I'm sure that he must have worked on his problems and I believe that he played very well against the SA in Nagpur and I won't be surprised if he is included in the team to SA.

shail (Tue Dec 10 20:00:15 1996 IST):

Jimmy what do you think about our fielding? What do you think should our players do to keep physically upto the mark as the other countries???

Saju Varghese (Tue Dec 10 20:00:16 1996 IST):

Mohinder, You got out handling the ball more than once. How does it feel when the ball snicks your bat and is slowly on course to hit the wickets

Haresh (Tue Dec 10 20:00:24 1996 IST):

Hi Jimmy, Greetings from Hong Kong. First my utmost admiration for your contribution to indian cricket. My question to you is Why do our selectors show the lack of basic knowledge in selecting teams (case in point... selecting four spinners for the England tour, and many more) ? Also, do you think the selectors should have played at the test level ? Thanks.

Cric8wala (Tue Dec 10 20:00:49 1996 IST):

prem: by the way, we heard on coverage that the squad to south africa was going to be announced exactly 30 minutes after end of play today. any chance youre going to hear anything soon ? (ie, should i stay on or go get some sleep ? :-)

shail (Tue Dec 10 20:01:30 1996 IST):

Prem: I mean that you are simply great, I love your running commentary and daily reports.... great stuff .....

Prem Panicker* (Tue Dec 10 20:02:21 1996 IST):

Cricwala>> Pal, I'm not sure which time standard the Indian selectors follow... but thus far, there has been absolutely nothing from them about the team. Go sleep, buddy, tomorrow could be another exciting day on the live thing. :-) And the team will still be there, so what's a night more?

Mohinder Amarnath (Tue Dec 10 20:02:43 1996 IST):

Leg Stump: I'm glad that these criceteers are doing very well for them selves Cricketeers have been alswys been treated like stars they only thing is that we have more sponsorshoip and media involved with cricketeers life I think they are all nice humna beings and one thing we must all remember is that one personality is diferent to another and we react differently with different people.

Prem Panicker* (Tue Dec 10 20:03:46 1996 IST):

Shail>> Thanks, pal... :-)

Mohinder Amarnath (Tue Dec 10 20:05:12 1996 IST):

Haresh: I fully agree with hyou that all selectors should have international experince there is a vast diff betwen domestic and international cricket and If you have not gone through that experience thne it is very difficult to select that property if yoiu leave out a good player on any tour or any match then it affects the team as well,. I always conisder somebody a good player who performs under pressure.

leg stump (Tue Dec 10 20:06:03 1996 IST):

Jimmy I saw your photo in one of the mags recently which I managed to lay hands on. You are still trim and look fit for your age. How do you manage it?? Do you have some fitness routines or what?? I could seriously use some of your tips myself. Mind sharing it??

Mohinder Amarnath (Tue Dec 10 20:06:22 1996 IST):

Mr Amarnath has to leave so he will take FIVE MORE QUESTIONS

shail (Tue Dec 10 20:07:08 1996 IST):

Jimmy what do you think about our fielding? What do you think should our players do to keep physically upto the mark, as the other countries???

lavanya (Tue Dec 10 20:07:43 1996 IST):

mr. amarnath whom do youconsider the altime batsman, bowler, fielder, wicketkeeper and etc of all times?

leg stump (Tue Dec 10 20:07:59 1996 IST):

JIMMY YOU GOING TO A PARTY OR WHAT?? STAY ON MAAN. IT IS FUN TALKING TO YOU. IMAGINE I HAVE STAYED UP TO ABOUT 2:00 A.M NOW ONLY TO TALK TO YOU. FOR OLD TIMES SAKE YAAR....PLEASE.

kamal (Tue Dec 10 20:08:23 1996 IST):

Hi Jimmy, Why is that Cricket in India is not managed and governed by experienced test cricketers? Is there no motivation for cricketers like Gavaskar & Kapil to take part in managing Indian Cricket?

Cric8wala (Tue Dec 10 20:08:26 1996 IST):

jimmy: any young prospects you believe we should be keeping an eye on ? anyone stand out, batsman or bowlwer ?

Mohinder Amarnath (Tue Dec 10 20:09:26 1996 IST):

LEG STUMP: I'm veey particular about fitness I do atleast five days a week lot of strecthing jogging, plus walking that keeps me going I spend abnout an hour and ahlf in exercises and the day I don't do excersies I feel very uncomfortable and unwell so excersise is a daily routine for me and I on't think I could live without it .

usamd (Tue Dec 10 20:09:40 1996 IST):

Hi Jimmy, How about splitting our batting line- up for different designated category.Ex hard hitter, flash hitter, defensive batsman etc.

leg stump (Tue Dec 10 20:10:29 1996 IST):

Hey thanks for the tip jimmy. i shall drag my lazy bones out of bed from tomorrow....

Smith (Tue Dec 10 20:10:58 1996 IST):

Jimmy, Whom do you rate as the best test playing nation right now?

Cric8wala (Tue Dec 10 20:11:04 1996 IST):

prem: i wish the selectors would keep some time :-( been waiting ever since the game finished, hoping for the team. didnt want to wait another full day for it :-)

Mohinder Amarnath (Tue Dec 10 20:12:02 1996 IST):

Kamal: Sunil is quite busy with televison and coupled with his work and business commitments I'm sure they would only like to be selectors or in any other capacity in the court provided they have people of their standing .

Prem Panicker* (Tue Dec 10 20:12:06 1996 IST):

leg stump>> Go to sleep!!! *grin* Tomorrow's gonna be a long day, buddy... and Mr Amarnath has a huge fixture coming up in four days, tonnes of organising left to do... we were pleasantly surprised when he said he would squeeze this chat in between half a hundred other things. :-)
