'This is a body blow to the divestment process'

Mumbai, September 13, 2002: 'FM did not stand up for divestment. I am extremely disappointed with the CCD's decision,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

sagar : dear mr rameshji, how do u find compudyne winfosystems at these prices which u had recommended earlier?
Ramesh S Damani : Hello everyone. Thanks for joining. Let's start. No news flow from the company. Still have not been able to graduate at a higher level in terms of growth.

sagarr : sir, i dunno whats wrong i seem to be only one here, what a good luck for me today, how does geometric and it &t look to you at these levels?
Ramesh S Damani : The show was not held on Tuesday, so public may be unaware. Geoemtric looks good. I still own it. IT&T is still an immature stock. IT has potential, but also requires a waiting period.
sagarr : dear rameshji, so many counters like melstar and others were locked at 20 percent circuit, why so? any thin special, if all 3rd round counters like orient ifo, or such can go circuit then why not compudyne?
Ramesh S Damani : No particular reason. There was a story on Blue Dart. Some value buying in Melstar and Hexaware.

sagarr : sir, although i know u dont go for short term recommendations, but its long since you gave us any trading calls, can u give us one or two trading calls ?
Ramesh S Damani : I have not bought anything for that purpose recently. The last stock I bought and has done well is Tata Honeywell.

sagarr : dear sir, as u say ITES has a tremendous future , so i attended a meet on ITES 2 months ago conducted by nasscom and where i learnt there was a shortage of training and number of people required when 2008, sir, therefore dont u think ,niit or ssi, or aptech have a great future?
Ramesh S Damani : They could, but companies will do inhouse training. NIIT and SSI's market cap is large to have a meaningful impact at this point. Maybe in the future.

sagarr : rameshji, thanks for recommending tatahoneywell, which i bought at 200 and did not sell at 233 when i asked you last week,,,but however right or wrong i sold at 261 yesterday and bought max, mcdowell and apollo hospitals,,,,,
Ramesh S Damani : Congrats. Remeber though that Max, Mcdowell and Apollo while good companies, have a long holding period as business is immature (not mcdowell). Be patient and have conviction.

sanjay : what future do u see now in IBP
Ramesh S Damani : Now that it has been divested, no near term triggers exist.

sagarr : dear rameshji,,, i have 100s of questions to ask you, and i think i am lucky today,,,so answer this one,,,,,,i have a suggestion from a delhi based company to go for a franchise for a call center under their umbrella,,,is it ok or too risky?
Ramesh S Damani : Call centre is a business of scale, hence I would be careful.

sanjay : is indian hotels is good at this price for 2 yrs
Ramesh S Damani : Yes it is good, its market cap is only Rs 600 crores.

Maya : There is a problem with login..we thought the chat wasn't happening
Ramesh S Damani : It is on. Thanks for joining.

asd : hello ramesh bhai. good to see u today. wat do you think abt the postponing of the hpcl/bpcl selloff?
Ramesh S Damani : I am extremely disappointed. It is a body blow to the divestment process.

sagarr : dear sir, we are in a telecom business which is not doing well and growth have gone stagnant or negative for our ssi unit,,,therefore can you find any oppurtunity in ITES ? like trdading in accesories required by ITES?
Ramesh S Damani : Have to think about it.

dipesh : what will happen to the divestment scenario in India following the CCD's decision to postpone HPCL, BPCL?
Ramesh S Damani : It looks like cold storage. We need leadership with vision.

asd : rameshbhai, also what is ur assesment of jaswant singh's performance as FM till now?
Ramesh S Damani : Very disappointed. He did not stand up for divestment. That will add to the fiscal deficit.

shaileshbagri : hello sir,Sir what do you feel of the retail business in INdia?
Ramesh S Damani : Lot of money coming in. Unorganised business is getting organised. Good opportunity.

AnandBhatt : Dear Sir,How are you?I sold all my PSUs HP,BP,Concor,BEL.Those people in Delhi are sychotic.
Ramesh S Damani : I still have faith in BEL. The rest we have to think hard about.

BASANTMAHESHWARI : Tata Honey the co. is getting into security applications business and a lot of BPO work also. Heard that you were in Pune recently did you get any sort of freedback as to what kind of order flows could come in from the Parent?
Ramesh S Damani : Logic says that if India is to be an IT destination, work should flow here. They perform high end engineering services for Honeywell and other clients.

AnandBhatt : Sir,I bought some Tata Honeywell at 207.What a great call by you.Congrats.Now can I buy more at current rates or do you expext a drop tp abot 220 levels
Ramesh S Damani : Hold on to it. It is a good investment

ajay : is there any chance of bull market in next six months
Ramesh S Damani : I am always hopeful.

asd : sucheta dalal has alleged in her column tat wipro share price is being manipulated. do u agree? if yes, then why is wipro being targetted?
Ramesh S Damani : The price moment was unnatural. Maybe SEBI will look into it.

shaileshbagri : Of the 2 which one you rate high....Trent or Pantaloon in retail business.
Ramesh S Damani : Trent though I don't own any. Pantaloon is risky and could work, but management is unknown.

urfan : rameshbhai, what about mcdowell why it is rangbound? what is behind todays selling?
Ramesh S Damani : It went ex-dividend.

ajay : as the psu story is over and IT market still not botoomed out in US what is the chance of next rally lead by old economy
Ramesh S Damani : I believe that it will be led by IT-enabled services.

AnandBhatt : Sir,people are bearish on the market. They dont know if it will breach 2930 but they are definately bearish.I want to accumalate Geometric and Eserve.DO you see them falling from these rates,so far with the PSU drop they have hardly gone down?
Ramesh S Damani : I would accumulate these shares. Money shlould get out of PSU and find home in tech.

BASANTM : Ramesh what is your outlook on Kale the Company si also pushing itself into the into the BPO business and with the airlinbe industry recovering doesn't the Co look great at a mcap of Rs 50 crores. For your information alliance has added IT andT about 6500 shares in August. Enam is getting out of the counyter any idea/information
Ramesh S Damani : Kale is an immature stock and I am wathcing it. Growth has not come yet.

amar : Sir,Samir Aurora is talking about mobile telephony & cable company. Any co worth looking into in those sector?
Ramesh S Damani : I think he was referring to Bharti and Hinduja. Hinduja is a trading call. Bharti is still making losses.

shriprakashbagri : Since you are dissapointed with the CCD meeting hence I would like to ask you question other than stocks.....have you seen the movie Devdas, If yes then whose character did you find most appealing Chandramukhi or Paro?
Ramesh S Damani : I am a fan of Madhuri (Chandramukhi) and I see Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai for her.

AnandBhatt : Sir,is there any reason for the sudden rise of Tata Honeywell to 270.And plaese answer my previous question on Tata Honeywell i.e.DO you see a correction since it has gone from 200 to 270 levels.Because I just bought a small quantitiy at 207 and I want to accumalate more.I did not touch ot as it was at 250 levels for a week.So do you think we will see a correction to 220to 225 levels or I should go ahead and invest at current prices?
Ramesh S Damani : its hard to offer an accurateprediction. however counter isdry with low stock. if it comesaround 240-250 it seems a goodlevel. Remeber gowth should comein the last half of the year

hello : do u find HTMT attractive enough for buying at these prices? u said it's a trading call?
Ramesh S Damani : Small time trading. Company has broken out of a range with good volume.

hello : Dear Ramesh.....what's yr opinion on titan around current prices?
Ramesh S Damani : Not very enthusiastic.

ajay : is US stock market is bottomed oout is it can touch 5000 as told by gross
Ramesh S Damani : It could however at this point if you have a good stock idea buy it.

hello : what's yr broad call on the market in the medium term? do u think it would come down again to 2930 level, or it looks gathering momentum on the upper side?
Ramesh S Damani : It could happen especially if FIIs start selling after the PSU fiasco.

asd : why is bharti tele showing such low prices? i am very worried abt it.. pls advise damanibhai
Ramesh S Damani : The company is still incurring losses.

supreti : sir should i go for sonata at 15 do u forsee any growth
Ramesh S Damani : No particular idea.

Maya : Is ITC worth looking at?
Ramesh S Damani : Looks okay to me. I own some.

Nullee : eserve has been in this 500 - 650 range for 5 months. Is it likely to get business from other clients apart from CITI as that good be a good trigger??
Ramesh S Damani : Not at the current time.

basant : Bharti is making losses but looking at the market cap of China mobile etc is it not a multi bagger after all samir feels that HDFC Bank and Zee stayed at one levels for a long while before exploding. Your take
Ramesh S Damani : Does it deserve to be the tenth most valuable company in India? That is the market cap it went public with. I am not sure. Let them prove it.

ffkk : Sir should I hold or sell SAIL,NALCO,BEL,GNFC,Goldiam bought at your recomendation?
Ramesh S Damani : Sail: sell, Nalco: hold, BEL: hold, Goldiam: hold, GNFC: speculative. I own all the stock except Sail and Nalco.

hello : why have people become enthusiastic about IT companies once again? do u think their prospects, especially in terms of performance has improved over the past twpo months? What about uncertainty in US market for double dips?
Ramesh S Damani : Work is coming to India. Deals are getting done. US companies save costs.

spbagri : Kaante, the most hyped, awated and the most controvosial film now round the corner what do you suggest the holders of Pritish Nandy Communications." Sochna hai Kya, Jo hona hai hoga, chal pade hain fikr yaaron dhuee mien udaake".
Ramesh S Damani : Not enthusiastic about it.

basant : United Phosphorous you would recall I had purchased at about 124 and asked you for your comments last week. The Co. seems to have become a favourite with the funds and Institutions with Birla holding over a million shares and alliance and the element of Intellectual rights also present. Tell me the future course from here ?
Ramesh S Damani : Good purchase. Strong earnings are driving the stock is what I understand.

Nullee : Market has not realised the seriousness of the PSU divestment delay. They are still hopeful and people want to buy PSUs. Would u still buy HP at 200 - 220 range now??
Ramesh S Damani : It yields Rs 10. However I would wait a while before thinking to buy it.

amar : Sir, Some say that there will be a buyback in POLARIS.Any idea?
Ramesh S Damani : I doubt it they will use money for acquisitions.

basant : Geometric seems to have lost interest now when ever the index loses ground geometric falls first is it a cause for temporary worry or do you feel that the Co. is loosing out to peers like Eserve HTMt etc. Co.
Ramesh S Damani : It has moved from Rs 50 to Rs 600. It needs to digest this move. Patience is key to a good stock

hello : please give yr opinion on Infotech Enterprises. Is it a good buy?
Ramesh S Damani : Looks okay. I own a small quantity.

spbagri : Are you planning to go for any vacation in near future, if yes then when and where?
Ramesh S Damani : No current plans.

basant : Sir, Infotech Enterprises the stock that you regretted to have missed once and had got in late after the tumble are you still long on it the Company is into CAD CAM etc all funds except PRUICICI (who has bought into it) have discarded the stock. WHat is the strategy from here?
Ramesh S Damani : Tata Honeywell does the same kind of work and at Rs 200 was a better opportunity. Management is better. Hence I bought that instead.

hello : can u suggest any midcap for buying in the current market?
Ramesh S Damani : Not bought anything new.

AnandBBhatt : Sir,its a tough question but where do you think the market is headed. Is it in a trading range, will it move up or you see a slow downward drift as there is no triggering factor at all to drive it up?
Ramesh S Damani : It may remain in a range. No great triggers are available.

hello : lot of developments are taking place at the Max counter! any idea? yet the stock is not moving?
Ramesh S Damani : It represents good value. If you have patience, it is a good stock.

Nullee : Hughes software seems to be technically strong. Is there anything you heard about better fundamental performance or BPO intiative that will drive the price?
Ramesh S Damani : Management has generally not delivered.

amar : Sir,Bayer Diagonistic is having an earning of Rs 35/ It's selling at Rs 240/ Don't you think it is a good buy?
Ramesh S Damani : What will it grow at? Any estimates?

maverick : is morepan labs good for long term investment?
Ramesh S Damani : No opinion on it. Thanks for joining. See you next Tuesday at regular time. Bye.
