'I am bullish on Bank of Punjab'

Mumbai, August 26, 2003: 'Bank IPO's tend to do well in this environment. Even the bullishness of SBI is independent of the repo rate,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

kisho   :  When should i exit BEL what are your short-term n long-term targets for it?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Hello everybody. Thanks for joining. Let' start. BEL is working up on 2 levels. General re-valuation of PSU stocks and secondly, the company is doing well.

baracuda   :  with a 0.5%repo rate cut are you revising your target price for sbi upwards and would yu still buy it at current prices of435
Ramesh S Damani   :  Yes. Bullishness of SBI was independent of the repo rate cut.

mahesh   :  i have taken nalco call of 135 do u think its a right move
Ramesh S Damani   :  Yes. I own it.

baracuda   :  your soothing remarks yesterday on cnbc were well received by the investors at large thanks a lot
Ramesh S Damani   :  Thank you. Unfortunately we just have to get used to such terrorist attacks.

Ahmedabadguys   :  Mr. Damani does the fued between Mr. Malaya and Chabaria hurting mcdowell from current level or you see the stock has seen the worst days and now for all us haapy months are here after long wait????(specially in the bull market)
Ramesh S Damani   :  I think he has to resolve the dispute with Herbertson before anything happens in McDowell to unlock value. I have said it many times, if you want to market your portfolio every day McDowell is not for you.

hiten   :  Based on foresight on emerging trend of biotechnology industry in india and its export market, I bought CLASSIC BIOTEC 2000 shares @Rs.9.50. Since then I have seen downward movement upto Rs.5.00. Can you pl give lead on this script & industry.?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Sorry. I don't follow it.

mahesh   :  recently i have taken godrej consumer mahavir spg shri raj syn according to your advice i have taaken in small qty do u think one should go for large exposure
Ramesh S Damani   :  That is for you to decide but they seem cheap at current levels. I own all 3 and trade in them.

mayur   :  Sir, what do you think about Opto at these rates? Shall I book profits or wait till the dividend and bonus shares????
Ramesh S Damani   :  I have been booking profits.

newbieatstock   :  sir dont you think many people are already use to such attacks.... whats more scary, the fear of another attack, or the society that just takes it as another firecracker
Ramesh S Damani   :  Difficult question. However, I believe in all urban cities this will be a phenomenon. We have to cope with it and pray.

cmouli   :  Mr. Damani what's your call on Bank of Punjab?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I am bullish on it. I own it.

baracuda   :  have yu studied or bought standard industries i heard they are now doing well the wage bill has been settled and may pay a dividend in2004
Ramesh S Damani   :  I have not followed it.

newbieatstock   :  sir what will be the chain of events that wil follow for mcdowell.... 1) the stock will be sold to a strategic partner. 2)alchol deregulation which will mame the company profitable and then one should think of selling....am i right ?
Ramesh S Damani   :  First Herbertson will have to be resolved. Then the rest could follow. Mr Mallya has a big ego. Maybe he will feel bad due to its miniscule market cap

gopal   :  Ramesh jiii , PSL Holdings has lots of orders but it is not moving up , whereas Man Industries is moving like anything . what could be the reason
Ramesh S Damani   :  There are two reasons. First, the size of the equity is small, and secondly, the company is generally turning around.

Priaya   :  Can I invest in Morgan Stanley Growth fund at 12.50 levels since Sensex is at 415o level?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Yes. I also own it. The discount is steep and the portfolio makes sense.

sanjana   :  sir ur call on CADILA and RANBAXY
Ramesh S Damani   :  Both seem to be doing well.

SPBagri   :  ramesh what should be the exit point in BOP
Ramesh S Damani   :  No exit point at this time.

hb   :  Sir,please comment on uco bank ipo.
Ramesh S Damani   :  Bank IPO's tend to do well in this environment.

nriinv   :  The way you answer questions sir, you dont have any share in IT and ITES. These share used to dominate your chat once upon a time
Ramesh S Damani   :  I own all the shares. I am a big believer in ITES and remain so.

sudipto   :  Sir can u give a list of your ITES shares in your kitty ?
Ramesh S Damani   :  e-serve, McMillan, Tata Honey, TVS Electronics to name a few.

mayur   :  sir, can i know the P/E multiple of Macmillan at the current rates. It is showing as 10 in the pink papers and according to you it should command a PE of 20. What are your views?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Pretty much. I think this kind of quality company should command a higher PE.

sureswar   :  Dear Sir... you views on Infotech Interprises please !!!
Ramesh S Damani   :  I would take a small exposure.

mahesh   :  sir can u tell serially if one has to take sundaram fin godrej cons mahavir spg zodiac sh raj syn what will be ur serially preference
Ramesh S Damani   :  You cant compare them. Sundaram Finance and Godrej are blue chip companies. Zodiac is an emerging one. Shri Raj is in a turnaround mode. I own all of them.

Ahmedabadguys   :  Mr. Damani when the market is bullish as an market player one must allocate small portion of fund for the momentum stocks and rest in the long term portfolio...your views on it????
Ramesh S Damani   :  Momentum does not appeal to me as an investment style.

SPBagri   :  Dont u think except ITES/Textile eveything has moved up from cement/ pharma / steel which we have not bought.what could be the obvious reason
Ramesh S Damani   :  I have recommended Tisco, Dr Reddy's etc. I can't swallow SAIL's valuation.

gopal   :  sir , u mean to say PSL Hodlings equity is too low
Ramesh S Damani   :  Too high.

SLInv   :  I repeat my question yet again. Would Geometric Software be IT or ITES ?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Mostly IT. Due to the falling margin of the rupee, Geometric Software will be under pressure.

unclekaputnik   :  do yu expect a dividend annoncement from macmillanwhen they annonce third qrt results in oct
Ramesh S Damani   :  No. Only in the next year.

newbeeatssotkcs   :  sir could u say with your recent invesements and recommendations...you have somewhat added textiles to your circle of competence
Ramesh S Damani   :  Just broadly. It takes a long time to understand a sector. I am no expert on textiles.

unclekaputnik   :  will the 2000crs textile revival package being spoken by the govt benfit shr raj syntex
Ramesh S Damani   :  I think so.

anaam   :  Dear Sir, In one of your previous chat someone had pointed out that CUMMINS INDIA has projected a growth of 5000% in V-28 & QSK gas engine (which their forign collabrator intends to procure)by 2005.Did you get a chance to verify the same? What your view on CUMMINS INDIA at this level?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I can't verify that.

vikas1   :  INFOTECH ENTERPRISES is quoting at just 5 PE . whats wrong with iyt. Business model seems robust
Ramesh S Damani   :  Management has been disappointing.

Lohit   :  If I said the bull market is being carried by the follwoing at the following percentages, would you agree   : -FII 25%, OBC/Operator 40%, Retail 30%, Corporate 5% -- would you agree??. What would be your changes in the figures ?.
Ramesh S Damani   :  Bull markets are independent of these people. I don't believe in operator driven markets.

Ahmedabadguys   :  Sir macmilan has year ending dec.?I think 3.5 rs. div.already declared for current year...If you know please shade a light on the dividend history and expected div. for the current year after this 3.5 rs div already declared???
Ramesh S Damani   :  They will declare 40 per cent of profit as dividend. For FY-03 they could declare Rs 8 one EPS of 20/-plus

bronson   :  Is it easy for you to explain the way how
dividends are calculated. Example - Reliance declared 20% dividend - how is it calculated
Ramesh S Damani   :  Rs 2 on a Rs10 share - hence 20 per cent. On price of Rs 400 Rs 2 iv would be a yield of 1/2 per cent.

gopal   :  sir, it worth looking at Shri Rajasthan TexChem even though it had posted losses for the 1st quarter
Ramesh S Damani   :  Yes. It looks cheap.

amitsbhatia   :  sir good evening please give me your views on National fertilizer ?? current mkt price of 62 and dividend of 61.15 %. should we invest a PSU stock??
Ramesh S Damani   :  The yield is good but I don't follow the stock.

Ahmedabadguys   :  Mr. Damani you are an eternal bull..(me too...I too share your vision of conviction)This time around you see very good moves even from the current levels before the election hits the country??/( Somehow I feel BJP govt. is backing up current rises...Mr. Bajpai himself was pleased with SAIL prise rise in parliament at No conf. motion)
Ramesh S Damani   :  No an eternal one. I like to think I can see both sides of the street.

balchan   :  what do u think of the pension reforms? would hdfc (holding HDFC AMC) and sundaram finance (sundaram amc) benefit handsomely?
Ramesh S Damani   :  They could.

kamaraju   :  dear Ramesh sir, why ITC such a good company with so much of reserves trading around 14 times of its 2003 earnings. What is your view in ITC.
Ramesh S Damani   :  I am bullish on ITC. Also take a look at Godfrey Philips. Tobacco stocks are doing well.

newsbeeatstock   :  sir do analysts and brokers etc get paid to come on cnbc or is it publicity and do you think many a times people just blindly follow thier recommendations
Ramesh S Damani   :  I don't think they get paid. I always recommend that you do your own homework before entering the stock market.

vikas1   :  MRPL and SAIL has gone from 8 to 40 but our shares are still in range bound. what should we do
Ramesh S Damani   :  These things happen in the market. SAIL was a great call at lower rates. You need to have your own conviction in stocks.

balchan   :  have u seen the latest navneet balance sheet? they are talking about entering ITES. what do u think abt the cmpany? another potential macmillan?
Ramesh S Damani   :  I have not read it. Let me check it out.

Hanuman   :  I think u don't want to say anything about Maruti Udyog or u don't want to guide me
Ramesh S Damani   :  I feel it is well priced.

NUSRAT   :  NUSRAT says, SIR I AM A NEW INVESTOR I NEED YOUR ADVICE ,WHICH STOCK WOULD U RECOMMEND ME TO INVEST IN FOR A PERIOD OF 6 MTS?? PL ADVICE
Ramesh S Damani   :  The best advice I can give you is to study and think for yourself. I can teach you how to fish, (i.e. look at the market) but you need to learn how to catch your own fish

raju jiwani   :  This is my third time asking same question .Mr Damaniji, Wats your view on ALOK TEXTILE IND.?With EPS of Rs 8/- and PE ratio of meagre 3 is it a woth buy?
Ramesh S Damani   :  They are doing well currently but I have no exposure to it.

Bhaggu   :  My majority of holding is in e-Serve.Iam along term invester.Should i hold on or convert it to other old econnomy stocks?
Ramesh S Damani   :  That is for you to decide. vikas1   :  WILL U BUY TATA HONEY, MACMILLAN AND GEOMETRIC AT THIS RATE. WHATS WRONG WITH ALL THESE
Ramesh S Damani   :  Generally the market has moved away from tech stocks.

newsbeeatstock   :  am a relatively new investor, ive read a lot of books which are general in nature.....anything that can expose me to good learning when it comes to number crunching
Ramesh S Damani   :  I can't remember the names off-hand but check out the titles in Amazon.com

udayv   :  Sir Could you find out about SPANCO?
Ramesh S Damani   :  Not yet. Thanks for joining. See you next week.
