'Market may remain sluggish till Budget'

Mumbai, October 30, 2002: 'IT-enabled services sector looks promising. If you have picked good stocks, it will pay,' says Ramesh Shrichand Damani.

NEERAJ : ALPS INFOSYS HAS BEEN DELISTED FROM AUG 2002 FROM BSE .WHEN YOU EXPECT TRADING ON BSE OF ALPS INFOSYS WILL RESUME
Ramesh S Damani :

NEERAJ : Alps Infosys has been delisted from August 2002 from BSE. When do you expect trading on BSE of Alps Infosys will resume?
Ramesh S Damani : I have no idea of the date it will be listed again. Sorry.

guptaone : hi rameshji! good to see that mcdowell has bounced back exactly after touching low of 35/- yesterday! results r declared or not yet?
Ramesh S Damani : It should be out later on Tuesday

narayan : how can one judge the price of a company as underpriced or overpriced
Ramesh S Damani : More of an art than a science. Start by looking at the market cap.

MARKETANALYST : SIR, WHY IS MCDOWELL TANKING, ALONG WITH UB
Ramesh S Damani : Some foreign institutional investors are selling out of Mcdowell. Market has been in a funk also lately.

guptaone : can u please explain how the earlier shares of UB were splitted?r they splitted into ub & kingfisher properties? what is the ratio?
Ramesh S Damani : For 100 shares of old UB, you got 60 shares on new UB and 40 shares of King fisher.

Joy : Good afternoon Rameshji.Sould I exit MAX(bought at 100)at your advice and buy again wfter some fall? What about HPCL(217) and NALCO(94) and Tata Honey(216) all at your advice.Regards.
Ramesh S Damani : I would hold on to the basket. Max remains a good long-term investment. Tata Honeywell results were good. Nalco is a trading call. HPCL, you know about the divestment story. I own all of them except Nalco.

Siva : Good afternoon Ramesh ji, with its qrly dismal performance, what is your call on polaris software and how is it going to perform in future? Entered into it at 170.
Ramesh S Damani : Most of the midcap stocks have done badly. It looks good ahead of the road.

narayan : what do you think cmc will go from here should we keep it or not
Ramesh S Damani : They have an analyst meet on Tuesday at 1600 IST. Let's see what they say.

MARKETANALYST : SIR , HOW DID YOU FIND GATI'S RESULTS. ARE YOU A BUYER AT RS. 28.
Ramesh S Damani : Remember in a slowing economy, noone is doing well. However, at the market cap it is a good buy for patient investors. I have not bought recently.

arahaman : WHAT IS UR OPINION ON UB BEER AT PRESENT PRICE? OR SHOULD I ADD MCDOWELL?
Ramesh S Damani : they both look attractively priced.

NEERAJ : YOU ARE FROM AHMEDABAD SIR DO YOU KNOW ALPS INFOSYS IS TRADED ON AHMEDABAD STOCK EXCHANGE.I HAVE SOME HOLDINGS SO I WANT TO SEE IT PLEASE DO REPLY SIR
Ramesh S Damani : I am from Bombay.

dastur : dear sir. good afternoon. please any outcome of analyst meet of Geometric. also suddenly good volume & upsurge in the stock. did you attend the meet? your view, please?
Ramesh S Damani : I did not attend. Q3 & Q4 should be good for Geometric. It should perform with the market.

Siva : Sir, it is really frigtening to see market sliding down and losing selfconfidence, however disciplined i am. A line of encouragement please. All the scrips i entered are down now.
Ramesh S Damani : Market requires discipline and conviction. If you have picked good stocks, prices will come back. That I am sure.

dastur : Dear Sir, I have not yet seen the results of Tata Honeywell. They say it will be flat. You say that results were good. Were they beyond your expectation?
Ramesh S Damani : In 2001, they earned around Rs 3.2 crores before external items. This time it is Rs 4.95 crores. Q3 is the most critical quarter for them. If it turns out to be good, we are home. I own it.

Siva : Sir, Last week on star news you said that IT-Enabled are looking better. May I please know some of the best IT-Enabled companies which can be looked at for investment?
Ramesh S Damani : The ones I have consistently recommended are E-serve, Tata Honeywell and Mcmillan. Wait till the results of e-serve to buy it. I own all three.

jayan : sir, what r ur views on rolta
Ramesh S Damani : Avoid it.

narayan : what r u expecting from mcmillan this qtr
Ramesh S Damani : The results should be out on Tuesday. Let's wait. Generally Q3 and Q4 are dull.

shree : should one subscribe in allahabad bank share
Ramesh S Damani : If you want exposure to PSU banks, buy SBI. It is the cheapest.

sadharap : what do u thoink about the market after this Diwali ? anything positive
Ramesh S Damani : Market may remain sluggish till February Budget.

Amar : Sir , I am asking this question again . I am new to Stock trading . Please tell me how to start
Ramesh S Damani : Open an account with a broker and start reading before trading.

BASANTMAHESHWARI : Have you eneterd Max off late there is no profit in the company one just gets a feel that at a M'Cap of less then 150 crores it might regain lost glory are profits expected to grow in the current year or as they say Insurance is a along waiting game??
Ramesh S Damani : Insurance is a long waiting game. However, the IT enabled business shows a lot of promise. I am hoping they tie up with NY Life for IT-enabled work. Management is good

hema : Dear Sir, how is gillette and ETC at this level to buy? Is there any other good scrips which I can slowly to buy.
Ramesh S Damani : Gillette looks promising.

Pranav : How is Appollo Hospital& TVS electronics placed in BPO story. also please discuss
Ramesh S Damani : Apollo will do medical BPO. TVSE is going into contract manufacturing and e-services.

BASANTMAHESHWARI : Vijay Damani(My mamaji) sends his greetings to you
Ramesh S Damani : Greetings to him too.

ajayb : What r ur views on MCMILLAN INDIA? Is it a good buy at current levels , I had bght the earlier lot at 330
Ramesh S Damani : Company has earned Rs 11 for 6 months. That is in the bag. Next six months are slow. They could earn Rs 5 at a price earning ratio of 10 with good management. It is an exciting business and I am bullish on it.

ashwin : Sir In this type of market scnario what should be the ideal portfolio for the retail investors.
Ramesh S Damani : I would go overweight on things like IT-enabled.

Ganesh : Wish you a happy & prosperous Diwali
Ramesh S Damani : Thanks and same to you and all our fellow surfers.

arahaman : Dear Ramesh at present price level which one is most attractive among ur favorites (Macmillan/Max/TVSE/Appolo/geometric/IT&T/Tata Honey/Mcdowell)
Ramesh S Damani : Tata Honeywell, Mcmillan and Mcdowell are the best three at current rates. I own all three.

ManojGarg : Damaniji is MACMILLAN also in BPO space besides publishing?
Ramesh S Damani : Yes they do digitisation work. It is small, but growing.

Shailesh : Good evening sir, I would like you to recommend your fellow surfers a script to trade and make money on the muhurat trading session ?
Ramesh S damani : I am just making my list. Thanks all for joining. See you next week

BASANTMAHESHWARI : Problem in Macmillan I feel is that techniocally it is at a 52 week low, everybody has bought into it and moreimportantly it NEVER RALLIES what ever happens to the index. WIll the fundamentals change the technicals in the short term ( 3 months) or is your holding period more elongated
Ramesh S damani : That is all true. However, market can make mistakes on the downside and upside. I give management the benefit of doubt.
