NIIT enters Malaysian 'Multimedia Super Corridor'

NIIT Limited has been granted a special status in the $15-billion Malaysian 'Multimedia Super Corridor' project. It will be the second Indian company after HCL to have such a status along with other global companies such as Oracle, Ericcson, Hewlett-Packard, NEC and Sun Microsystems.

NIIT will take part in creating educational multimedia software and providing IT training to Malaysian professionals apart from the focus on the Smart School flagship project. "NIIT has planned its MSC activities to fulfil both MSC's and NIIT's objectives," said Rajendra S Pawar, managing director, in an NIIT press note.

NIIT is investing around $1 million in setting up three multimedia educational centres and a corporate training centre in association with the Penang State Development Corporation.

It is also setting up a multimedia software factory and a state-of-the-art R&D centre.
