Vision Statement for Indian Cricket

Respect for the game

The board believes in learning its lessons wherever it can find them.

In recent times, this board learnt a lesson from its Australian counterparts. We have seen the spectacle of past greats honoured; we have seen the national team go out into a match wearing caps that commemorated its past history. We have been given an example, and we will learn from it.

The board promises that former players will be treated with honour. That their skills and experience will be used in every and any way possible, for the benefit of their successors.

Further, the board will institute a national archive. It will strain every nerve to ensure that the archive houses every cricket book ever published; that it contains the videos of every cricket match that has ever been filmed; that it serves as a comprehensive archive of cricket history.

This will be maintained for the benefit of the players, and the fans. Any citizen will be free to make use of the available material, for reference, at any time, within the operating conditions laid down by the institution.

This will provide an added benefit. We learn best by example. Today, if a left-handed batsman wishes to learn from, and emulate, the greats of the past from Garfield Sobers on down, where does he go? Nowhere.

Once the national archives are up, the cricket videos will serve as an invaluable learning tool for aspiring cricketers of all levels. And that alone will make the expenditure worth the while.
