England in India

Graham Thorpe and Andrew Caddick have confirmed their availability for England's forthcoming one-day series in India, as well as the one-day and Test series in New Zealand.

England's one-day squad are not happy at having to play an extra match in India in the New Year. But the England and Wales Cricket Board insists that commercial realities left it with no choice but to accede to India's request.

"In the 1970s, India played some crippling cricket with the spinners bowling 10 overs an hour," said David Graveney. "If memory serves me right, Mr Gavaskar was captain of that team." he added in response to Gavaskar's comments on the England team.

South Africa in Australia

Australia added leg-spinner Stuart MacGill to their squad on Sunday for the third Test against South Africa at the SCG.

Zimbabwe in Sri Lanka

Bowled out for 184, Zimbabwe were still 338 runs short of making Sri Lanka bat again at the end of the third day in Colombo. Off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan added to his four first innings wickets by snapping up openers Hamilton Masakadza and Trevor Gripper. in the second innings

Bangladesh in New Zealand

Bangladesh coach Trevor Chappell says that his batsmen need a change in mental attitude if they are to succeed at Test level.
After New Zealand's emphatic second Test victory in Wellington, Chappell blamed the country's roots in one-day cricket for the shortfall. "They've had an upbringing in one-day cricket so we've got to try and change the mental attitude".
