India in South Africa

Not motivated enough to produce a performance of any kind the two teams went through the motions on the first day of the third unofficially official third Test match at Centurion yesterday. At stumps India were 221-8 after being put into bat having lost Anil Kumble to the last ball of the day.

New Zealand in Australia

Australia declared at a massive 588-8 on the third day of the second Test against New Zealand. Rain delayed play at Hobart. When rain stopped play the visitors were 71-2. With Shane Warne and Jason Gillespsie taking one wicket each.

England in India

Ashely Giles will test his fitness in the next England tour match against India A at Jaipur. Ashely Giles is making a comeback after a long lay off following an Achilles tendon injury. This will be the last chance for Giles to test his fitness before the first Test begins at Mohali on December 3.

Miscellaneous

South Africa named their team that is to begin the tour of Australia early next month. The selectors have recalled veteran fast bowler Alan Donald for the important tour. Donald underwent a fitness test and was ruled fit.

Former Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad has said that England have a good chance of beating Indian at home. He advised the Englishmen to quit worrying about Tendulkar and company and just concentrate on bowling a good line. He said the Indian's have been dogged o late by controversies and bad form and that their form had slipped back a couple of steps from what they displayed against Australia early this year.

Zimbabwe finally ended their 16 match losing streak when they beat lowly Bangladesh by 5 wickets in the first of the three one day internationals. Bangladesh managed only 156 and Zimbabwe coasted to a win with 5 wkts to spare.

The Indian team for the first Test against England beginning on December 3 at Mohali will be picked at Jaipur on November 28, the second day of the three-day match against England. The Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly and coach John Wright who will be back from South Africa by then are also expected to attend the meeting.

Former Australian fast bowler Jeff Thomson said England could rule out all chances of attempting to win the Ashes even though the next tournament is more than a year away. He said it took years to build a quality cricket team and he said therefore England had better prospects for the future than for the current.
