The most controversial Test of the series. The match was overshadowed by the events that occured on and off the field. To start it all, Michael Vaughan was adjudged out handling the ball and Nasser Hussain accused the Indian team of failing to show sporting spirit.

Vaughan, who was given out "handled the ball" under Law 33.1, became the seventh player and the second Englishman in Test cricket history to be dismissed in this manner.
