Bangladesh 31 matches without a win

Mohandas Menon | April 17, 2003 14:01 IST

Statistical highlights

(4th match - India v Bangladesh at Dhaka on 16-4-2003)

  • Abhijit Kale became the 152nd Indian player to appear in LOIs.
  •  Virender Sehwag, playing in his 71st LOI match of his career, became the 18th Indian player to lead the side. At 24 years 178 days he became the third youngest Indian to lead a LOI side after Sachin Tendulkar (23 yrs-126 days v Sri Lanka at Colombo on 28-8-1996) and Kapil Dev (23 yrs-249 days v Sri Lanka at Amritsar on 12-9-1982).
  • The 34-run partnership between Mehrab Hossain and Hasibul Bashar was Bangladesh's best against India in LOIs for the 2nd wicket, bettering the 31-run stand between Athar Ali Khan and Minhajul Abedin at Mohali on 14-5-1998.
  • The last-wicket partnership of 25 runs between Tapash Basiya and Tareq Aziz equals Bangladesh's best for this wicket against India. Anisur Rahman and Saiful Islam had also put on 25 runs for the last wicket at Sharjah on 5-4-1995. Incidentally, the Baisya-Aziz stand was Bangladesh's joint third best for the tenth wicket in LOIs. The best still remains as the 29 runs between Mohammad Sharif and Mashrafe Mortaza against Zimbabawe at this very venue on 26-11-2001.
  • Playing in his fourth match of his career Sarandeep Singh (2-34) recorded his best bowling figures of career. Prior to this match he had taken just one wicket (1-49) against Zimbabwe at Kochi on 13-3-2002.
  • Gautam Gambhir (71 in 3rd match) and Parthiv Patel (27 in 4th match) registered their highest LOI scores of their career.
  • Patel's 27 was the highest score made by an Indian wicketkeeper against Bangladesh. Saba Karim had made 8 at Mumbai on 25-5-1998.
  • Alok Kapali's 2-41 was his best bowling figures of his career in 20 matches. His previous best was the 2-42 also against India on 11-4-2003.
  • This was India's tenth consecutive win over Bangladesh in as many matches.
  • Bangladesh, meanwhile, extended its dubious record of 35 winless matches since its last win against Pakistan on 31-5-1999.
  • This was India's 12th win in the last 14 matches since the 2003 World Cup.
