Determined not to end their 40-day England tour on a disappointing note, India 'A' fought back on the final day to draw their four-day match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on Saturday.

Wasim Jaffer

Opener Wasim Jaffer led the fightback with an attacking double century and helped the team to 449 for the loss of two wickets at the time of declaring its second innings.

Sridharan Sriram on 108 and Hemang Badani on 14 were the not out batsman.

Trailing Warwickshire by 356 runs after being bundled out for 181 in the first innings, the Indians, resuming at the overnight score of 70 without loss, displayed superb batting to pile on the runs and send the county side on a leather hunt for the first time in the match.

Saturday saw a deluge of runs, 379 in all from just 75 overs.

The Indians were given a solid platform by the opening pair, captain Shiv Sunder Das and Jaffer, who put on 151 runs for the first wicket.

Das eventually fell to Kenyan leg spinner Collins Obuya after having spent 150 minutes for his 65.

But Jaffer (218) continued with his counter-attack. His first hundred came off 146 balls but the second was quicker. His double hundred came off 245 balls in 308 minutes and contained 35 fours and a six.

Lending him support from the other end was another India discard, Sriram. The Tamil Nadu batsman struck a contrast with his careful batting. His unbeaten innings lasted 175 balls and included 15 hits to the fence.

Ian Bell, who claimed four wickets in the first innings, went wicketless in the second.
