Despite an egg-shaped swelling on his hand, Waugh returned after lunch, batted in pain for his 19, and then went to hospital for a precautionary X-ray.
The X-ray showed no bone damage, suggesting that Waugh will be able to play in his farewell Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 2.
