Kale, selectors should undergo lie-detector test

November 23, 2003 14:12 IST

Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Chairman Balasahab Thorve on Sunday called for lie detector tests of tainted batsman Abhijit Kale as well as two national selectors -- Kiran More and Pranab Roy -- to unearth the truth behind the bribery scandal.

"I feel Kale is innocent and he was denied natural justice. The only way truth can come out that both the selectors and Kale should undergo lie detector tests," Thorve told reporters at the MCA office here.

The MCA chief also said that after labelling charges against the player, both More and Roy should take initiative in proving them.

"The onus to prove the allegations now rests on the shoulder of the two selectors."

Thorve said that MCA will stand by the player, who represented Maharastra in Ranji Trophy for years.

"Injustice has been done to him and no one can deny that. So we have decided to support him," the MCA chief said.

The BCCI on Friday decided to suspend Kale from playing any cricket conducted by the Board after More and Roy alleged that the player had offered them Rs 10 lakh each for a place in the national side.

The Board appointed Chairman of the Bar Council of India D V Subba Rao as the Commissioner of Inquiry and asked to submit his findings within 15 days.

Thorve said MCA will fully co-operate with the Commissioner on Inquiry in getting to the root of the scandal.
