The Campaign Begins

Left-hander Sadagoppan Ramesh played a fluent innings of 87 and gave Tendulkar good company.

Ramesh, who was drafted into the playing eleven because V V S Laxman was down with the flu, hit 10 boundaries in his 266 minute stay at the crease and faced 191 balls.

The 28 year-old Tamil Nadu opener, who averages 37.97 in 19 Tests, last played against Sri Lanka at Colombo in 2001.
