England vs South Africa

Fifth Test, Day 5

Marcus Trescothick, who made a career-best 219 in England's first innings, scored a quickfire 69 paving the way for England's nine-wicket win in the final Test.

Trescothick was England's highest scorer in the series with 487 runs at an average of 60.87, with a double century and 3 half-centuries.

His 219 is the joint second highest score by an English batsman against South Africa, behind Eddie Paynter (243) and Bill Edrich (219). The left-handed Paynter scored his double hundred in the third Test at Kingsmead, Durban, in 1938-39; Edrich made his highest knock in the 11-day Timeless fifth Test at Kingsmead, Durban, in the same 1938-39 series.
