Warne, Bowler reprimanded by ECB

August 26, 2004 10:43 IST

Australia leg spinner Shane Warne has been reprimanded by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) following an incident during a county championship game in Somerset last week.

Hampshire captain Warne and Somerset player Peter Bowler were both handed three penalty points under the board's disciplinary code, the ECB said in a statement.

"Warne and Bowler were reported by umpires Barrie Leadbeater and Mervyn Kitchen for a level two breach of the code (using language or gesture that is obscene or of a serious insulting nature to another player)," the ECB said.

The penalty points remain on the records of the two players for one year. The accumulation of nine or more penalty points in any 12-month period results in automatic suspension.
