December 14, 2004 20:55 IST

Middle order batsman Mohan Daruy's unbeaten 93 helped Maharashtra take a crucial 101-run first innings lead on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' match against Assam at Aurangabad on Tuesday.

Resuming at their overnight score of 22 for no loss, Maharashtra made 302 for seven with Dhiraj Jadhav (37), former India player Hrishikesh Kanitkar (42), Kaushik Aphale (55) and Satyajit Satbhai (28) all contributing to the total.

Though wickets kept falling from the other end, Mohan, stood like rock and was still unbeaten on 93 which came off 135 balls in 187 minutes with eleven boundaries and one six.

Brief scores:

Assam first innings: 201 all out.

Maharashtra first innings: 302 for seven (M Daruy 93 not out, H Kanitkar 42, K Aphale 55, S Satbhai 28).
