Australia rest Hayden against India
January 19, 2004 10:41 IST
Australia have recalled Simon Katich and given opening batsman Matthew Hayden a rest for Thursday's one-day match against India in Sydney.World champions Australia have won three of their first four games in the triangular series, thrashing Zimbabwe twice, beating India by 18 runs and then losing to Saurav Ganguly's side by 19 runs in Brisbane on Sunday. Hayden, who made 109 in the defeat by India, will remain in his home city of Brisbane this week. "It gives him the chance to manage a range of minor injuries that he has endured, including knee soreness, which is a common problem among top-order batsmen," chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said in a statement on Monday. Katich, 28, made his maiden Test century against India earlier this month. He has played only one limited-overs international, against Zimbabwe in 2000-01. "Simon's form has been irresistible this summer and although his selection in the (13-man) squad is just for one match at this stage, we are keen to see how he performs at one-day international level," Hohns said.
