Tendulkar's all-round double

Rajneesh Gupta | July 27, 2004 19:04 IST

Sachin Tendulkar is providing further proof of his multi-faceted talents in the ongoing Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

Thrice in the tournament skipper Sourav Ganguly tossed up the ball up to him and on all three occasions he ended up with a three-wicket haul!

As if this was not enough, the little master also notched a half-century on two occasions to complete an awesome all-round performance.

Sachin Tendulkar is providing further proof of his multi-faceted talents in the ongoing Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

As if this was not enough, the little master also notched a half-century on two occasions to complete an awesome all-round performance.

Tendulkar has now scored a half-century and taken three wickets in the same match on four different occasions -- the most for India. Surprised?

If you think making a half-century and taking three wickets in the same match is no major achievement, just note that India's best all-rounders Kapil Dev and Manoj Prabhakar did not have a single such performance during their distinguished careers.

Tendulkar's all-round performance in the game against Pakistan moved him ahead of Sourav Ganguly, who has three such instances to his name. Tendulkar, in fact, is now placed joint second in One-Day International cricket with South Africa's Lance Klusener and second only to West Indian Chris Gayle, who performed the feat on five occasions.

The player with the highest run-aggregate, the most number of centuries and the most man of the match awards in the shorter version of the game is now making a mark with the ball also.

Players with most instances of a fifty and three wickets in the same match:

5Chris Gayle(West Indies)
4Lance Klusener(South Africa)
4Sachin Tendulkar(India)
3Imran Khan(Pakistan)
3Aamir Sohail(Pakistan)
3Grant Flower(Zimbabwe)
3Nathan Astle(New Zealand)
3Sanath Jayasuriya(Sri Lanka)
3Sourav Ganguly(India)
3Shahid Afridi(Pakistan)
3Scott Styris(New Zealand)
