Muscle strain puts Zaheer out

March 31, 2004 14:55 IST

India's pace spearhead Zaheer Khan will not take any further part in the first Test against Pakistan at Multan.

The left-arm bowler sustained a muscle strain in his right leg on day 4 and had to leave the field after bowling only one over in the morning session.

He received treatment in the dressing room but did not return to the field.

In his absence, the fast bowling duties will have to be shared by Irfan Pathan and Laxmipathy Balaji.

Earlier this year, Zaheer had been ruled out of the Test series in Australia after sustaining a hamstring injury.
