Hussain stepped down as England Test captain on July 28 last year in the midst of a Test series against South Africa after checking with Michael Vaughan if he was ready to take on the job.
The Ashes though will remain a blotch on his illustrious career. He was never part of an English side that won the Ashes.
"I don't regret anything I've done but the one thing I do regret is not being there at 1-1 or 2-2 with Australia going into the last Test match at the Oval or Sydney. I'd have liked to look at them eye-to-eye and tell them, 'We're here for the Ashes'," he said.
