Things just seem to get worse for the Indian cricket team.

As if facing an embarrassing defeat against the Aussies was not enough, Virender Sehwag was fined 65 per cent of his match fee for showing serious dissent at the umpire's decision when India batted in the second innings during the first Test at Bangalore on Saturday.

Sehwag was charged with breaching section 2.2 -- showing serious dissent at an umpire's decision -- of the ICC Code of Conduct for players.

The offence falls into level two of the ICC Code of Conduct.

After due consideration of the evidence, circumstances and the player's previous disciplinary record, Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle imposed a penalty of 65 per cent of the player's match fee.

The hearing was attended by Sehewag, India skipper Sourav Ganguly, team manager V Patel, umpires Billy Bowden, Steve Bucknor and third umpire A V Jayaprakash.
