Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar [Images] became the most capped one-day player on Friday after making his 357th appearance in the fourth match against South Africa [Images] in Kolkata.

Tendulkar, 32, surpassed former Pakistan all rounder Wasim Akram.

The 32-year-old Mumbai batsman recently made a successful injury comeback after six months following elbow surgery. He has also scored most one-day runs (13,877) and hundreds (38).

South African captain Graeme Smith [Images] won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The Proteas suffered a blow after strike bowler Makhaya Ntini [Images] was ruled out due to illness. Rookie Albie Morkel, 24, who bats left-handed and bowls right arm, was included for only his second match.

Paceman Charl Langeveldt also returned after being sidelined for the second game due to back strain.

The teams are level 1-1 in the five-match series after the third match in Chennai was washed out on Tuesday.
