India skipper Rahul Dravid [Images], ecstatic after the five-wicket victory over South Africa [Images] in the fifth and final one-day international in Mumbai on Monday, attributed the good showing in the series to team spirit.

"We are developing as a team and are far from being the finished article. The spirit shown by the team throughout the series was the highlight," he said.

Kolkata hostility unfortunate: Dravid

Dravid, who was declared man of the match, heaped praise on the side for bouncing back from the 10-wicket drubbing in Kolkata two days ago.

"It was a terrific performance. The boys have responded very well to the tough week we have had. It is a huge credit to them and I am proud of my team," he added.

He complimented his bowlers for restricting South Africa to a moderate total.

"We got early wickets and then the spinners kept the pressure on," he said, singling out Harbhajan Singh [Images] for his stand out performance in the series.

"We were confident that if we managed to restrict them we had the depth in batting to chase the total. But we were waiting for the dew to fall which never came," he said.

Rival captain Greame Smith said his team fell 20 to 25 runs short but conceded that they did not take the half chances that came their way.

"The wicket was a bit better to bat on in the evening but I am satisfied by the effort shown by my team. We had the half chances but could not take them, which is very important while defending a total of 221."

Man of the series Yuvraj Singh [Images], who shared the honour with Smith, said, "We tried to do the basics right because the pressure was on when I came to the crease."
