Ganguly invited for second Test

March 06, 2006 19:31 IST

Sourav Ganguly [Images] will be in Mohali for the second Test between India and England [Images], beginning on Thursday, but only as a spectator.

The former Indian skipper, ousted from the Test squad and facing a bleak future, has accepted an invitation to watch the match at Mohali, Punjab Cricket Association president I S Bindra said on Monday.

"As a former captain, we have invited him to watch the India-England match and he has already given his confirmation. Sourav said he will be coming to watch the Test after March 11, because that day he has his involvement in Jaipur (Deodhar Trophy match)," Bindra said.

He said former captains M A K Pataudi and Kapil Dev [Images] also confirmed that they would be coming to watch the Test.

Bindra said BCCI president Sharad Pawar [Images] will inaugurate an indoor cricket net facility on March 8 at a function, which will also be attended by Punjab Governor S F Rodrigues.

The PCA would give honorary membership to Rodrigues and Pawar.

Bindra also said the BCCI had selected Mohali has as one of the venues for the Champions Trophy matches, slated to be held in October this year.

"We have received a letter from the BCCI in this regard. However, since it is an ICC [Images] event, the final decision will be taken by them," he added.

He said the organising committee of the second Test met under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Secretary K R Lakhanpal and reviewed all arrangements.
