In one of the rooms at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Parisar sits Harishbhai Bhat, the MLA from Godhra, Gujarat. The legislator with a huge moustache has been campaigning in Bhopal for the last three days. He is moving to Rajasthan next.

On the campaign trail never once does he mention Godhra -- scene of the horrific murder of 58 kar sevaks on February 27, 2002 -- and concentrates on local issues. Compared to the roads in Gujarat, he says, the highways in Madhya Pradesh are pathetic.

Bhat retired from the Indian Air Force in 1982 after serving 15 years in the IAF. When he stood for election in Godhra in December 2002 he says the Congress called him an outsider. He retaliated with, 'I am not from Godhra but I am not from Italy.'
