EC seeks report on free Air-India passes

March 25, 2004 15:16 IST

The Election Commission has sought a report from the Civil Aviation Ministry by Friday regarding free travel passes reportedly issued by Air-India to high-profile political functionaries to visit London.

In a communication to the ministry, the Commission said the issue of such free passes amounted to contravention of the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct.

It has sought full details of the total number of passes distributed so far, with the names and ranks of the dignitaries to whom these were issued from February 29 till date.

The EC has told the Civil Aviation Ministry to submit the report by 1700 hours Friday.
