Review Dil

Sukanya Verma

Hip. Trendy. With it. Dil Chahta Hai packs quite a punch. Aamir Khan in Dil Chahta Hai

The film is Farhan Akhtar's, son of gifted parents Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani, foray into the world of cinema as director. And his film boasts of a talented and unusual starcast -- Aamir Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Priety Zinta and Sonali Kulkarni.

It also boasts of energetic and lively music by composer trio Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonca, set to the lyrics of Javed Akhtar.

The album comprises of eight tracks, including a love theme.

The title track by Shankar Mahadevan, voicing the dreams and aspirations of today's youth, is stylish and zestful. This one has two versions. And the second one plays on a comparatively slower tempo.

Preity Zinta in Dil Chahta HaiJaane kyon has Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik debating on the subject of love. A catchy song with some cute banter weaved in by Javed Akhtar does wonders for highlighting the on-screen chemistry between Aamir and Priety.

In Woh ladki hai kahan, Shaan hunts for the woman of his dreams with some help from Kavita Krishnamurthy. Its folksy Celtic beats add a touch of pizzazz to the score.

Kaisi hai yeh rut by Srinivas is a dreamy track with some imaginative lyrics and soulful composition.

Depicting the carefree nature of Generation X comes in Koi kahe kehta rahe by Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan and Kay Saif Ali Khan in Dil Chahta Hai Kay. A foot tapping number with an Indi-pop touch, obviously, with three leading Indi-pop icons coming together.

Akash's love theme (Akash is the name of Aamir Khan's character), by Mike Harvey is a smooth work of orchestration.

Sonu Nigam croons about loneliness with Tanhayee -- this is a stark melody.

The music of Dil Chahta Hai is innovative. Different. And lively. It's worth a hear.
