Review Deewaanapan

Ashish Magotra

Deewaanapan has been named aptly so, because this silly caper is as crazy as it gets.

In case you are wondering why? Let me give you a faint idea as to what exactly went wrong.

First there is the very original (boy meets girl - they fall in love - girl's father does not like boy - in the end, boy and girl unite) plot.

The plot: Deewaanapan

A young man named Suraj (Arjun Rampal), lives in the beautiful town of Dalhousie which a pretty thing-Kiran (Diya Mirza), decides to explore.

It's love at first sight.

Unfortunately for them, the holidaying soon comes to an end and the two part without exchanging love vows.

Suraj's dad (Om Puri) gets transferred to the girl's town. Finally, the eager lad gets a chance to win his sweetheart.

Hold on. This is just the beginning.

Trouble brews as Kiran's daddy dearest and godfather of the town- Chaudhary Randhir Singh (Vinod Khana), does not appreciate Suraj and Kiran running around trees.

He decides to give Suraj 30 days to leave town. But our hero, Suraj is an adamant fellow and Kiran's love wont go waste. In the end, love triumphs over all. Happy ending. Zzzzzzz.

Performances:

Among the actors, Arjun Rampal as the hero does pretty much what he has been known to do. He models. His acting capabilities leave a lot to be desired.Deewaanapan

Point to be noted: If you ever see Rampal without his shirt, stay away. For every action sequence, Rampal tends to lose his shirt somehow and then proceeds to beat the bad guys black and blue.

Diya Mirza, the lesser said about her role the better. If she was taken in the film with the sole purpose of dancing around trees, then she has done a pretty good job.

Veterans Om Puri and Vinod Khana have been completely wasted in half-baked roles. Neither of them manage to salvage the film.

None of the ditties are worth mentioning. What is perhaps worth mentioning is that after every 5-minute duration you have a song that lasts longer.

Personally:

Deewaanapan is devoid of any of sensibility or plausibilty.

Instead it is so boring that even keeping your eyes open is a Herculean effort.

Words from wise: Don't even think about watching Deewaanapan.
