ACC, Reliance and Tisco lead moderate FII-sparked rally; Sensex recovers 41 points to 3976.88

Pivotals gained further at the Bombay Stock Exchange on continued buying interest from foreign institutional investors and local operators today.

ACC, Reliance and Tisco led the rally on increased buying support, dealers said. The current market favourite stocks like fast moving consumer goods, infotech and pharma witnessed a mixed trend.

Institutionlised buying was noticed at the counters like Hero Honda, Indian Hotel and Punjab Tractors, dealers said.

Reflecing the uptrend, the 30-share BSE Sensex opened at 3963.64 points, touched the day's high of 3992.19 points, a low of 3941.85 points, before closing at 3976.88 points, showing a net gain of 41.06 points or 1.04 per cent from the previous close of 3935.82 points.

The Sensex has posted a gain of about 65 points in last two consecutive trading sessions.

The broad-based BSE-100 index rose by 16.15 points to 1720.28 points from the previous close of 1704.14 points.

The BSE-200 and Dollex indices rose by 3.73 and 1.49 points to 391.75 and 151.93 points as against the previous close of 388.02 and 150.44 points respectively.

Among the issues, ACC gained by Rs 6 to Rs 183.50, Arvind Mills Rs 1.25 to Rs 65.10, Bajaj Auto Rs 12.40 to Rs 547.50, BHEL Rs 7.70 to Rs 208, BSES Rs 3.35 to Rs 154.50, Burroughs Welcome Rs 1.65 to Rs 725.05, Colgate Rs 5.15 to Rs 213.15, Dabur India Re 1 to Rs 604, Dr Reddy's Rs 3 to Rs 810, Grasim Rs 6.50 to Rs 175, Hero Honda Rs 5 to Rs 990, ITC Rs 3 to Rs 1030, L&T Rs 19.30 to Rs 260.80, Pentafour Software Rs 7 to Rs 1098, Reliance Rs 4.80 to Rs 177.90, SBI Rs 1.30 to Rs 244.50, Telco Rs 6.30 to Rs 189.50 and Tisco Rs 1.80 to Rs 110.

The losers were German Remedies down by Rs 4.05 to Rs 783.50, Hindustan Lever Rs 17 to Rs 2270, Infosys Technologies Rs 39.90 to Rs 3195, NIIT Rs 3 to Rs 1857.

Total turnover on the BOLT system reported during the day was Rs 12.42 billion.

Reliance topped the list by registering the highest turnover of Rs 1.65 billion, followed by Satyam Computers Rs 1.10 billion, SBI Rs 1.02 billion and L&T Rs 797.1 million.

Other actively traded counters were Ranbaxy, Zee Telefilms, Pentafour Software, ITC, Telco, Tisco, Bajaj Auto, Hindustan Petrol, ACC, Raymond Limited and MTNL.
