A total of 23 projects from India have been nominated to Expo 2000, the international exhibition to be held in Germany from June 1 to October 31, 2000.

A key new element of the global exposition is presentation of projects from all over the world under the title ''Humankind, Nature, Technology.'' About 40 million visitors from 160 countries are expected at the Hannover show.

''On the threshold of a new millennium, Expo 2000 aims at giving a glance into the future,'' said German ambassador to India Heinrich Dietrich Dieckmann.

He said Expo 2000's theme park is a platform for institutions, research centres, businesses and individuals to present their ideas and initiatives for the human race's future life together in harmony with nature.

Contributors have chosen topics from environmental protection to human health and nutrition as well as issues dealing with the future of energy provision, communications and mobility. ''All proposals should be clearly related to the topic of sustainable development,'' he said.

At the same time, Dieckmann said, Expo 2000 will be an event balanced between entertainment and information. ''The exposition will show how global challenges that face the world on the threshold of a new millennium can be approached and how best to accommodate the ecological and economic needs as well as the social and cultural interests of individual societies.''
