Pivotals make smart gains; Nifty up 22 points to 1116

Pivotals rose further smartly at the National Stock Exchange on heavy buying support from foreign institutional investors on the last day of current settlement today.

Reflecting the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty Index opened at 1102.20 points, touched the day's high of 1121.95 points, a low of 1100.50 points before closing at 1116.00 points, showing a net gain of 21.80 points from the previous close of 1094.20 points.

The CNX Nifty Junior advanced by 23.45 points to 1977.15 points as against the previous close of 1953.70 points.

The FIIs have made considerable purchases in BHEL, BSL Software, Gujarat Ambuja, MTNL, Mico, Reliance, Shipping Corporation of India and Zee Telefilms.

With the continuous gain in share prices at the NSE's last ten trading sessions, the total market capitalisation rose by Rs 897.44 billion to Rs 1.316 trillion from Rs 418.99 billion on April 26.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 24.34 billion which came from a trading of 92.77 million shares in 321,521 trades. Debentures traded were valued stood at Rs 4.61 million.

Today, 653 securities advanced, 365 declined, 82 remained unchanged while 92 hit their price bands.
