Market@December 1: Day's report

Software stocks recovered sharply in the second half of the day. With a gain of more than 10 per cent, Wipro was the major gainer. Himachal, Satyam, NIIT, SSI and Rolta also gained more than 4 per cent each. Other stocks also recovered smartly from their respective lows.

Among the old economy stocks, Bhel, Grasim, MTNL, ITC, HLL and Reliance attracted strong buying.

Trading volumes in the market remained quite high and touched a two month high of more than Rs 50 billion.

Sensex up 35 points at 4033 points, Nifty up 7 points at 1274 points.
