Naidu off to Japan, China to woo investors

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is embarking on a 10-day visit to Japan and People's Republic of China from Wednesday to woo investors.

The chief minister, along with a 10-member delegation, left for New Delhi on Tuesday. He leaves for Tokyo on an Air-India flight on Tuesday evening. Chandrababu Naidu will spend four days in Japan and six days in China, and a day in Hong Kong. During his interaction with the Japanese and Chinese industrial groups and entrepreneurs, he will seek investments in Andhra Pradesh.

In his meetings with Chinese and Japanese industrialists and businessmen, the chief minister will make presentations showcasing Hyderabad as an information technology and international tourism destination. He will also highlight the advantages of cheap labour, cost-effective infrastructure and investment opportunities in various sectors such as electronics, engineering, automobile, household electrical appliances, mining, petrochemicals, and tourism in Andhra Pradesh.

Since Japan and China have emerged as economic giants, Chandrababu Naidu will seek their co-operation in economic development of Andhra Pradesh through the promotion of hi-tech industries.

China, for instance, has emerged as a key exporter of capital goods and fancy products worth $80 billion a year.

The chief minister is likely to seek co-operation with one of the special economic zones in China for a possible tie-up with the Visakhapatnam export processing zone in the state. He will also explore the possibility of replicating some of the Chinese and Japanese experiments in setting up exclusive trade zones, industrial corridors, etc.

Besides urging the Japanese industrial conglomerates in various sectors to make investments in Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu is expected to persuade the Sony Corporation to set up its software development centre in Hyderabad, besides a software production centre for its Entertainment TV wing.

The official delegation, led by the chief minister, comprises industry minister K Vidyadhar Rao, finance minister Y Ramakrishnudu, secretary information technology J Satyanarayana, principal secretary industries Shiela Bhide, CM's special secretary Randeep Sudan and few other senior officials. A 20-member delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industry has also left for Japan separately to be present during the Andhra chief minister's visit to that country.

According to the detailed itinerary released by the chief minister's office in Hyderabad, Chandrababu Naidu will call on Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori and Democratic Party president K Hatoyama on Wednesday. He will also meet chief cabinet minister Hidnao Nakagawa the same day. He will visit Toshiba Electronics and Sumitomo Trading Corporation and attend a dinner hosted by state minister for foreign affairs Kiyohiro Araki.

On Thursday, Naidu will visit Sony Corporation and Sony Media World and meet Itochu Corporation officials and Japan-India Economic Committee chairman Kawamoto. He will attend the India-IT symposium organised by Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry as chief guest. He will also visit a number of industries related to IT, electronics, engineering, automobiles and household electrical appliances and participate in a reception hosted by Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He will visit the Fujitsu Corporation, attend a working lunch with executives of Marubeni, Toshiba and EPDC, call on Imai, chairman of Confederation of Economic Organisations, meet minister for international trade and industry Takeo Hiranuma and attend a dinner hosted by Indian Ambassador to Japan Aftab Seth on Friday. He will inspect the new mass transportation system in Tokyo and meet executives of Hiyoshi Co and representatives of Indian Tourist Promotion Association and attend a reception hosted by the NRIs from Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

Naidu will leave Tokyo for Beijing on Sunday morning. After a visit to the Great Wall of China and rural enterprises at a town, he will return to Beijing and attend a dinner hosted by Vice Minister Ma Wenpu. On October 23, he will hold discussion with All China Women's Federation representatives, visit Beijing hi-tech zone, urban construction department and airport, and have a meeting at international department of Chinese Communist Party.

He will arrive in Shanghai on October 23 evening. On October 24, he will visit Shanghai special economic zone and the urban development project there. In the evening, he will leave for Shen Zhen, provincial headquarters.

On October 25, he will have a briefing on the Shen Zhen special economic zone and visit a factory there. He will also have a meeting with Mayor of Shen Zhen. On October 26, he will leave Shen Zhen for Hong Kong by road. Naidu will meet the Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau officials for overview of Cyberport and IT industry in Hong Kong.

He will have breakfast meeting with foreign institutional investors in Hong Kong on October 27 morning. He will attend a luncheon seminar on 'Investment Opportunities in Andhra Pradesh' and later leave for India in the evening. He will return to Hyderabad on October 28.
