Market@January 16: Day's report

The sentiment for software stocks remained weak. Himachal and SSI gained smartly during the first one hour of trading, but failed to sustain at higher levels.

Both counters showed a positive close. Global, Pentamedia and DSQ Software remained under pressure.

The old economy stocks, meanwhile, remained firm for a major part of the day. Reliance, L&T, HLL, IPCL, Tata Tea and Grasim remained in demand.

Sensex up 27 points at 4073. Nifty up 7 points at 1295.
