Market@January 22: Day's report

The sentiment for old as well new economy stocks remained positive. Himachal and DSQ Software managed to gain more than 4 per cent each.

Satyam and Silverline also attracted strong buying during the last one hour of trading.

Wipro and SSI were the only two stocks that showed a negative close.

Old economy stocks remained in demand. MTNL, Reliance Petro, Bajaj Auto, Telco, Tata Power and ICICI Bank were the star performers.

Overall trading volume was significantly higher on both exchanges.

Sensex up 73 points at 4267. Nifty up 19 points at 1348.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
DSQ Soft, Aptech, Reliance Petro, Telco, Bajaj Auto, Tata Power, Padmini Poly, Balaji Tele, Mukta Arts, TVS Suzuki, Ashok Leyland, Escorts, Thermax.

Losers:Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
HCL Technologies, Cybertech, EID Parry, Varun Ship., Ashima Ltd.
