Market@May 8: Day's report

Satyam remained in demand throughout the day, gaining 8 per cent. Global, SSI and NIIT also gained 8 per cent each. Other stocks also remained in demand.

In the non-software segment, Ashok Leyland, HPCL, MTNL, L&T, Hindalco, Bhel and Sterlite showed impressive gains. Other stocks also remained firm.

After SEBI's ban on short sales, trading volume was highest on BSE.

Sensex up 35 points at 3580. Nifty up 12 points at 1151.
