Market@May 23: Day's report

The performance of software stocks was impressive. Infosys attracted sustained buying and gained more than 6 per cent. Zee also hit upper circuit at 8 per cent and was up 7 per cent.

Sterlite, NIIT and Digital recorded impressive gains. The second rank software stocks also gained.

Meanwhile, the old economy stocks remained mixed. Tata Tea, Grasim, Rel Capital and Gujarat Ambuja showed impressive gains. The overall trading volumes were also up significantly.

Sensex up 33 points at 3674. Nifty up 11 points at 1179.

Sonata Soft, Mastek, Trigyn Tech, PSI Data, Cummins, Kale Consult, Crest Com, RS Soft, Hinduja Finance, Indian Hotels.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
Infosys, Zee, NIIT, Sterlite Optical, HCL Info, Escorts India, Titan, Padmini Tech, Aksh Opt, LML, Top Cassettes, United Phosphorous.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
Mobile Tele, Fem Care.
